Question Mert & Marcus colors - how is this done?

Hey guys, I'm new here.

Here's a photo by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott of Kate Moss. How is this colorization of theirs done? The green, blue, aquamarine, red, violet color tones in the shadows, midtones and highlights all throughout the subject?

I'm sure this involves individually masking areas or selecting a color range of shadows/tones and masking from there, but that's just my guess.

How could one begin to try and achieve this? Thanks!

It's colour solarization by sharp curve switchbacks, carefully masked.

I would say it was done with gels on set and further enhanced in photoshop.

As far as the mood of the image is concerned, there are definite references to the Christian stained/painted glass tradition, where the main figure is done in almost transparent glass, picked out with close-to-black contours (oxide painting and lead-lines) and surrounded by blocks of pure saturated reds and blues.

Not exactly a flattering lighting treatment. But, as my mother used to say, she's no spring chicken anymore.

My God that is one crazy image. That warm patch on her forehead is jut too much for me. And the arm, oh dear lord, this better be a scan. There is creative, and then there is messed up. Fake cheek shadow...
