Frank,
I have this belief that those who throw their whole heart into something rise to the top of the game. We, the obsessed, have a wonderful gift (though it may not look like that to others), and that gift is to be able to sacrifice everything for the mission. I would only add that as long as we keep God on the throne in our lives, we should full well do what we do to the max!

Funny thing is, my sign is Libra. haha

Exactly. I'm on a mission here.

And so many friends are taking these month or more long vacations. I'm wondering, did you fulfill your goals for this year? No, so what the F are you vacating from 2 months a year + doing absolutely nothing on the weekends.

Noone is going to offer you life on a gold platter, you have to earn it. Everyone has a limit as far as their success, but at least try to get close to that limit.

Very interesting topic! I think photographers would have this problem as well, and artists, musicians, in fact anybody with a strong interest in a craft or who runs their own business.

Balance is the secret, but it's so difficult to achieve because of necessity or obsession.

You think retouching is time consuming? Whatever you do don't get into graphics programming.

Apps, shaders, etc or anything math heavy where an api won't do it out of the box. Graphics programming just tends to be especially tedious, but I was having a little fun with this one. It was more a laugh at myself than anything.

Math isn't difficult. The problem most people have with it is that so many math books are absolutely terrible. That being said, anything related to graphics has some grounding in linear transformations. I mean you could just work with the higher level code and not think about it too much, but it is a math heavy area. As I said, I'm having fun with this. I find it bizarre that the OP would say his wife left him due to retouching. I'm not entirely convinced that his words are genuine.

I might propose that most photographers are right-brained creatives, but retouchers might be a different breed, doing their work after the shoot. Programming is yet another level deeper.

At any rate, I can see the attraction to coding since it's a predictable, controllable environment.

As for the OP, maybe we'll hear more about this!
