FS blured problem

Hi guys,

Sometimes when I retouch skin and FS is involved, as I zoom out the image it becomes some kind of blurry and looses it's definition I can see at 100%.

Now I did a research about this and people talk about the medium frequency (not only low and high). Means like if you over correct the LF you are going to loose this med frequency and the result is this strange blur when zooming out.

What I'm not getting 100% is how to use this middle Freq or avoid this blurry problem. Anyone can explain please?

Thanks.

Re: FS blured problem

FS is by definition a shortcut, which means by definition a compromise. For high-standard work skip the shortcuts and stick with DnB.

Re: FS blured problem

One thing you can do is add a layer of noise (50% gray layer in Softlight or Overlay mode) between your low/high layers. If you your split radius was, say 5px, medium freqs would be larger than that, so your noise layer might be at 10px -- or something larger than 5. Make your noise layer a smart object and run your noise filter as a smart filter and you can easily try different or even multiple radii of noise.

Re: FS blured problem

That won't solve anything. If you have issues with blurred detail, you may be overdoing the work. There's quite a bit of room for improvement to the available tools, but this sounds more like operator error.

Re: FS blured problem

Isedo, one thing I forgot to mention in my post. I presented rather arbitrary radius settings, but what you're trying to do is replace the uneven texture you removed with a more even texture of a similar frequency. So size the noise to be similar to the size of the texture removed. And of course localize it to the areas you messed with, i.e. skin. Make sure you blend it subtly and gracefully.

Re: FS blured problem

Use TINY brush when cloning(smaller than pores), and use only completely hard brush when healing, and don't heal over the same spot multiple times. Problem solved.

Re: FS blured problem

Don't touch anything with LOW.
As Doug Nelson said, skip the shortcuts and stick with DnB.
