WHat photo colorization technique is used here?

I was reading an article about ww1 photos that were colorized and just simply loved how it turned out to be. It feels really advance and would like to learn how they did it. If anyone has any tips as to how they processed it, please let me know, I would like to do such techniques on a black white that I have of old family photos. Thanks in advance.

These have been kicking around on the net for quite a period of time.

They are made by exposing three sheets of black and white film, each through a different color filter which of course are red, blue and green, then one combines the images during the printing process by exposing the color paper to each negative in turn.

The basic requirements are a tripod and subject material that does not move. You can see in some of the images where the something moved and of course the color is all off.

Search for "Tri-color" for more info.

Re: WHat photo colorization technique is used here

Your welcome.

You might try this:

Open a color image > new blank layer above it > fill the blank layer with Red (255-0-0) > change the blend mode of this layer to overlay > merge then two layers together.

Using the same original image do this again with Green and Blue.

Stack the 3 layers > place a new layer under them and fill with white.

Adjust the opacity of the 3 color layers to taste.

This should give you an idea of how hard it is to get any kind of reasonable color and how lucky we are to have todays tools!
