How do you adjust a selection?

How do you adjust a free selection that has picked something that you didn't want in the selection? I am trying to select a face and the tool added some hair I didn't want.

Use quick mask and paint away the area you don't want selected.

Or you might hold the "Alt" key while selecting the area you don't want to select, this will subtract.
