How to remove black dots and make it evenly black

I meant to write "White spots". Unable to edit the title.

Can someone suggest me the best way apart from using spot healing to remove the various white spots from this handle https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1...GRPUGRFZDRlVG8

Clean the item before you shoot? Paint on a darken layer?

Spot heal is a terrible approach. It's the wrong approach for anything other than a small isolated spot. You should unlearn it. Remember that complicated algorithms are often far more specific.

I don't see anything that looks like a spot. You will most likely want to use a darken layer. You'll need to be careful on the masking. If it's uniformly darkened, the highlight will look flat. It takes practice, and depending on your level of skill going into it, you may want a lot of reference material.

If the spot healing tool really is one of your frequent go to options, then gather lots of reference material. You will need it. This kind of thing is very detailed and much different. As you already noted, the garbage methods break down with this kind of work.

OMG, I omitted he/she said spot heal. Don't do that. Use the regular stamp and healing brush. Utilizing Frequency separation may also be of help.

I apologize.

Hi Skoobey,

I have never used Frequency Separation though I have learnt about it a bit last evening . I would appreciate if you can guide me as to how should I go about retouching this specific image with Frequency Separation Technique. this will help me understand this method much better.

What it does is "split" the image into texture, and shape. Shape is the bottom layer, and the texture is above it. It makes it easier to blend when cloning from one area to another that have similar texture, but are very different in tone. You clone and heal on the top layer with both your clone, and your heal tools set to "current layer".

Yes mate . This is close to what I wanted but I also wanted a Tonal Evenness which is lacking. If you see there are a lot of patched mildly different in colour. Can we correct that ?

The changes you seem to want are very subtle but wide spread.. The only way I can think of to get the surface even tonality speaking is with the dreaded Gaussian Blur tool and masking back the sharp areas... this will definitely make the surface smoother but you will loose most all the texture on the handle.
Seems a bit over kill to me, but not my project to judge..
