Important question: Why? My guess is that you find the pen tool pretty awkward, difficult to use.

Using the Pen tool involves a bit of physics and a bit of sewing.
You might not have gotten used to it. With a graphics tablet, especially a large one, it's significantly easier to achieve smooth results with the pen tool. I don't know what you mean by physics.

Now, don't get me wrong, but I have read, watched and also personally experienced that the Polygonal Lasso Tool is a lot easier than the Pen Tool for making selections manually. Heard fellow retouchers tell me too they avoid the Pen Tool. I don't know any product/automobile retoucher so I have no idea what's the other side of the story.

So, is there anything about the Pen Tool vs the Polygonal Lasso Tool which makes it weapon of choice for a lot of these professional product/automobile retouchers?

What's so good about it and not the Lasso for these people?
To me pen tool is a better choice to select the edge of the images. And I feel like pen tool is way more easy to handle than lasso tool. Besides that I guess pen tool is always a better choice than polygonal lasso tool when its about the selecting the edge of hairy or blurry image.
