[Tutorial] Effectively remove shadow from picture

I got lost at this part:

now select original picture.

now click on -- select > load selection (channel - gray ,
select invert box)

By "original picture," you mean the one that I duplicated at the beginning?

Where do I "load selection"- on the original, or the duplicate?

And HOW on earth do I load selection anyway? If I "select all" on the original and save it, that's the only way I can find that "load selection" isn't grayed out.... but then when I try to load selection, I get an error that "Warning: No pixels were selected." And what does all that about channels and gray mean anyway??

In the menu bar File; Edit; Image; Layer; Select -> Load selection, in the drop down menuw of document select the duplicate, select the background gray , tick invert

Help please - I've gotten as far as the duplicate layer and then when I go to make it black and white it makes a whole new layer for it... Help, please? Thanks!

Hi Saikat,

Interesting post.

I did this through the channel panel >picked the most suitable channel made a copy> pressed the selection button got selection>invert> then created empty layer and with selection still active went to edit> fill with gray 50% Colour dodge mode .

Editing: no empty layer needed just on original file.
