Re: February Photo Assignment - Nature at Work

Here is my entry: our section of Arizona (USA) had a much colder winter than normal, and several sessions of hard freezes which killed some of more tropical plants that typically are safe in our mild climate. Even though my backyard plantings are garden plantings, Nature shows who is in charge -- in the midst of the crisp brown leaves and stiff dead branches, Nature springs forth new growth with fresh color and soft textures. There are also a few raindrops, courtesy of a brief shower in our Valley of the Sun.

Camera is Fuji Finepix S5200 10x zoom compact, image data is ISO 200, raw format, f5.0, 1/125 sec., using Macro function at 16.7mm, handheld, cropped from original. Did noise reduction in Lightroom and again in PShop 7 with Noiseware, ran Levels and sharpened generally and then selectively on raindrops.

You've got less than a week to "turn in your assignment"!

C'mon folks -- let's use this next weekend to see "Nature at work".

Help! Stop me! I can't resist! I have to post these! Spring is just around the corner; and I can't wait.

I took these yesterday at an abandoned home in the hills. These hardy little flowers survive and bloom happily despite a pitiful lack of care. We scraped, raked, and burned all around them as we prepared the old home site for future sale.

Enjoy these harbingers of spring.

Janet

Re: February Photo Assignment - Nature at Work

It's such a nice day here, finally, after quite a cold and icy winter. Took my little Sony 7.2 megapixel out for a walk around the backyard searching for "nature at work". I found a few little buds (they're tired of winter too) peeking up through a pile of dead leaves.

Just normal exposure on the Sony and I did adjust the hue and sat in PSCS2, just posting here to share, that's all.

Re: February Photo Assignment - Nature at Work

I'm closing this thread at 6pm MST -- please submit your assignment entries before that time.

I'm opening up a "Voting Thread" -- even though it's not a "contest", we can operate it like TPaul's Contests to some degree. (Which means I should have set the cutoff time earlier in the month so we could have the voting done already and the winner could have set up the new assignment for March already... but I didn't do that.)

Re: February Photo Assignment - Nature at Work

Sorry, CJ. I really had intended to participate in this - but with the crazy weather and family being sick and.... well, it just didn't happen, and now it is too dark outside... Hmmm - wonder if I can find the hole through which our mouse has been getting in and out, and snap a shot of it. hehehe

I WILL be here next month, though! I am so excited that you started doing these, and that the photography section was started here!!

You Rock, CJ!

Dawn

Too late, Dawn! Entries are closed.

Sorry about the illness in your family, and your busy schedule. Hope March will be a better month for your whole family, and that you'll have time to post an entry in the March Photo Assignment -- looking forward to seeing it!

P.S. -- maybe the next assignment will let you include the mouse!
