Points well taken, but there is a danger in using Vista or MS's Photo Info Tool.

Re: VISTA - Warning to Photographers

They always say that, until the number of patches is so great that they just have to release an SP.

I take most of M$ announcements with a huge pinch of salt when they're relating to a new product. Pragmatism usually modifies their initial intentions greatly.

Still haven't seen anything with Vista to make me want to "upgrade", and an awful lot that makes me not want to at all.

Vista SP1 is already in testing stages, so I think you will find SP1 out by the end of this year. SP1 was actually scheduled for the second half of 2007, a few weeks after Vista was released It should come out at the same time as XP SP3

Re: VISTA - Warning to Photographers

hmm that's odd. cuz there was a press release by microsoft spokesman saying that all patches will be via live update so that they can authenicate legit users. they wont issue SP.

even if it's SP. it's gonna be like a 500kb file that will authenticate and start downloading on your own. kinda like WMP11 and IE7

Re: VISTA - Warning to Photographers

Press spokesman for MS 4/4/2007 (yesterday)
Quote:
Although Microsoft has previously confirmed the existence of Vista SP1 -- and a company spokeswoman repeated that today -- it's not ready to talk about a release date
From what I'm told XP SP3 is delayed until 2008, so I would expect Vista SP1 to be delayed too Stepo (Stephen Toulouse) head of MS security team, has also said there will be a Vista SP1 release. I doubt MS would continue to retail a Vista Version that is totally out of date with it's security. They would be leaving customers wide open to abuse from the second they switched on their new system/OS, and customers will not stand for that.

Think if all XP systems retailed now had no updates on. I would say 75% + would get Blaster worm before they got chance to even view the updates site. That would in effect prevent them from getting the updates to block the threat, as it would close their connection with the dreaded 60 second countdown .

This link makes for a good read too.

Re: VISTA - Warning to Photographers

I'm sticking to a drawer full of negatives, Windows 95 and Mac OS X.
They all work fine.
