| Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) This is a pic of a friends son. I played with an action from David Jasek (I found it in the "mother of all actions" section of the site. I used a little bit of OOB www.flickr.com has a group ( http://www.flickr.com/groups/oob/pool/ ) with some great examples. |

| Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) The misty panorama is just north of Bend Oregan at dusk --you could see peaks all around. But I haven't learned how to do a real panorama taking consecutive shots and splicing them together. Some time I need to learn that because if it had been done right there would have been 8 peaks instead. TwoSisters, Mt Adams (WA), Mt Hood, Mt Jefferson, Mt Washington, Mt Bachelor, Mt Mckenzie circle around you 180 degrees. At sunset in the misty cloudy setting it was spectacular. Bryce Canyon is a place to behold. Those spires are called hoodoos. They look like little chess men to me. Erosion carved the limestone into thousands of spires, fins, arches and mazes. I wish we had enough time to go hiking a little. Thank you for your comments--I may post a link later with more of the sites along the way. Sandi |

Also, when I have very strong shadows with bright sun I will expose for the brights and then do a shadows adjustment to somewhat lighten the darker areas. I don't actually know anything about HDR since I am kind of new to photography. I've been taking family photos with a little 3mp fuji but I started experimenting more when I got the Canon 20D. I really love this camera but I am still learning to use all its bells and whistles. Last edited by swarbees; 11-23-2008 at 07:48 PM. |

| Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) Frank, I used CS3 and the first one worked like a charm but the Olympic Mts were so small and I had zoomed in on the second sweep. But when I loaded the new zoomed photos they didn't stitch smoothly together? I could do it manually and they fit fine but the auto merge and blend was pretty screwy. The zoom was identical all the way around and I used a tripod just to make sure the shots would line up. Do you have any idea why the zoomed shots would be so far off? |

| Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) I took this photo last night. The clouds added a nice dimension to the sunset and the reflections off the water added interest. I used a telephoto lens on my Nikon D-70. |

| Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) Swarbees, I finally got to the images :-) It was my fault for not noticing the small download icon... I looked at what you shot and I noticed a couple of things: You apparently did not overlap the shots. At least that I noticed. This causes the software to have a hard time matching the pictures. The overlap recommended is typically 30 to 40 percent. This will, off course, cause you to have to shoot many more pictures. That is fine since the software later will know how to handle it. The more the images overlap, the more common points will be found by the software and more common points the better the "stitch". This is the reason why when you stitched them manually, they looked fine, but when the software tried it got all confused. Since the scenery is so dramatic and widespread, I would try two sets of panos. The first highlighting the tall mountains on the left and another set for the mountains on the right. If you try to do all at the same time, you end up with a "hot dog" pano. You have the horizon line approximately halfway up. Next time experiment using the "rule of thirds": compose the image so that the horizon is 1/3 of the way and the land and sky (which in this case is what you are after), taking 2/3 of the image. If the more important element is the water/sea, then give it 2/3 and let the rest take the last 1/3 This is also one of the reasons to experiment with shooting panos vertically instead of horizontally. It also appears that the white balance and exposure were left in "auto" mode. This will cause shifts in color and exposure from image to image. Next time try this to set them to manual so you don't get those shifts. Let me know if you have any questions. Quote:

| Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) these are very captivating shots---perfect composition---I tend to forget to try black and white when the scene has so much color to begin with. but that B&W is striking. |

| Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) Gee, those are very nice pictures indeed but would like to see them uploaded to the forum instead of having just links to them. The high quality and creativity of your shots is amazing: I'm a sucker for B&W pictures. If the upload limit constrains you, then in addition to uploading the image, provide a link to a high res image. Thanks and keep shooting. |
