Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) Gary, the "red mountain phenomenon" image is outstanding...especially the cloud color. Where I live in northeast Pennsylvania red shale is plentiful so it's used most of the winter on snowy roads. Then, for weeks we have red slush. It's kind of gross. I prefer the color in your sky!

Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) Tuesday night hubby, myself & a few friends grabbed a few hours of clear sky amid what feels like WEEKS of rain & cloudy weather to take a sunset cruise on Lake Wallenpaupack. Of the shots I got, well, let's say I'm not too pleased. To me, I think this beautiful sunset sky looks boring but I do like the contour lines in the water. Included with the original shot is a variation using India Ink filter and then a multiply blended layer. Any suggestions (other than leave the camera home next time?)

Possibilities: * Open up the shadows a bit (I used Photoshop's shadows/highlights command); there are some interesting details along the shoreline that, to me, look better than totally black * Perhaps crop it so the glare of the sun isn't quite so near dead center (rule of thirds) * I believe you're going in the right direction by using a duplicate layer set blend mode Multiply to give the sky a little more color and personality * I cloned over some of the sun glare, but that's personal preference FWIW: I have my camera with me about 99% of the time; you never know when a potentially great photo opp will present itself. | Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) While grocery shopping today I noticed some interesting flowers in the floral department. After putting the bags in the car, I grabbed my camera a went back inside. I got the manager's permission and began shooting away. I liked how this one turned out. |

Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) Hey Veralisa; I'm with Danny, never leave the camera at home; especially when you're going somewhere that has amazing potential for some great photographs. Not only do you hone your skills each time you adjust the lens and click the shutter, but you also set yourself up for being ready to take that aw inspiring photograph when everything in nature just seems right. Not to mention you save yourself from saying "oh darn, I wish I had my camera!" Danny, I like your shot. I was a little curious about the white balance though... the flower seems to have an orange tint to it, was that intentional; I mean, it looks good whether it was or not, just curious.

re: (lack of) white balance [the truth comes out] Store lighting was a little weird... a little fluorescent and some tungsten. Fact is I did not account for (nor act on) WB at the time with in camera settings or during post processing. It was an unconscious decision all the way. |

Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) Danny & Niklos, I need to thank you both...for comment & helpful suggestions. BTW, I NEVER leave home without without a camera. The overboard thing was just some self- depreciation going on. Danny, I see that shoreline all the time so perhaps I'm not excited about it's details, preferring the silhouette instead. Below is the same area but in daylight. I do like how you cropped it. I think I saw the sun as a huge bowling ball and did try some selective addition of color but wasn't as successful as you were. Thanks guys! Last edited by Veralisa; 06-19-2009 at 12:44 PM. Reason: added image

Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) Nice cat Nasturtium looks really cool and the Fly looks ok on my monitor Palms? This one is from Portugal i just got back after a quick visit, it was taken near a place called Algoz, Silves where there is a large gypsy community and you often see them on the road, this group i passed in the car and stopped a kilometre further down the road for the shot, love the little dog tagging along just wish i had used a slightly wider aperture though, Gary..

Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) Gary - who's Ella? She's gorgeous! How's your Dad - or should I ask? Yes, that little gypsy dog looks very happy to trot along side. palms1 - looks fine on my laptop. Just kinda creepy/scary. Veralisa - sorry about the rain. Nice cloud captures. The first one here I shot a week ago Sunday. I just sat the camera on the bench and shot through the slats. The next I took today. Believe it or not the brown is pond scum...makes a great texture IMHO. lol. And the gate is from yesterday. I took this amazing walk that I didn't realize was even there. We live in such a beautiful area. I'll try to get back to that path so I can get some better picture of the horses...

Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) Nasturtium, your photographs are wonderful. The bench slats pic is most unique...imagin what a simple change of point of view can do. It would really make for an interesting challenge... Where do you call home? The land looks "horsey" and very scenic. Gary, Love the gypsies! They certainly are a special breed of people complete with their own culture of survival. I agree, the dog puts it over the top!

Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) Veralisa-I live in rural Holland in a marina community. The pictures were from along a walk on the old Zuiyder Zee dike. I can walk to a fortified city and a bird wetlands is nearby. Yes, it's weird to live somewhere that people go to on vacation.

Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) Thanks Veronica, i'll try to get to that same area and may be get some more shots of these roma people. Hi Nasturtium, Ella is a fiend of mine, the daughter of my spanish translater... yes i still have problems with this language lol.. Thanks for asking about my dad, he had a lot of complications during and after the heart op, but is now getting stronger with physio every day although he still believes himself to be an invalid and is so demanding it's sapping all my energy... Was it your mother who went into hospital, how is she now? I just don't seem able to stay away from hospitals these days, a short while ago i developed a lump in my chest, several x-rays and ecographs later and i've been told that a radical mastectomy is necessary, i did locate a healer while i was in the Algarve, skilled in alternative therapy and i'm going ahead with the treatment... scary times indeed, but also time to put faith into an area in the past i had little time for until now, Gary..

Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) Gary-I've had good luck with alternative treatments. Educate yourself as much as possible and then go for it. southbay-I love the bright yellows and blues & the swoopy horizon in the first pic. That lily is eye-popping and the snail is just as cute as a bug. I'm really proud of this one. It's my first ever SLR macro shot combined with...a brown texture I found. I was looking into this silty pond for little fishies and noticed that it was mottled and had a bright spot in the middle. This silty/pond scum 'texture' appears to mix beautifully with just about everything! Who would have thunk it!?
