Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today)

Hi again algarve,

Both of those images were taken with my 16-35mm. I shoot Canon these days.

As far as the D-Max, back when I started college digital was just a mythical creature that had not yet entered our reality. One instructor and mentor told me that it would come soon and that we would have to adapt quickly or be left behind. By the end of my masters Koday came out with a digital camera that had a pack that weighed about 20-pounds that you had to carry on your shoulder as you shot. Oh yeah, D-Max; in the days of film we used a machine called densitomer that we slide our slide film and negatives in to measure our highlights and shadows which in turn taught us to make better exposures. Most film has a lattitude of about 5-stops and all of the tonalities should fall in the middle between the brightes highlight and the truest black. A pure black was called the D-Max. Much like Ansel Adams zone system you want most images to somewhere have a true black and a range of tones from there to your white. I hope this makes sense but yes the black point on the curves is used by clicking on what you think your true black is in that image.
I hope I explained this well enough but if you have any questions please feel free to ask.

* Camilla, your damsel fly is beautiful. Nice depth of field and the colors are sweet.

Smile Marmalade and a Pelagonium

Thanks Sweetlight,
i'm beginning to understand range of tone and using curves much more than levels now for the b/w point..
Camilla thats a great shot of the fly, something i don't have is a true macro, that Sigma is sweet and the bokeh really smooth...
This is Marmalade who is now demanding royalties and a flower i took just after midnight with the SB900 on lowish power with a simple reflector,
regards,
Gary...
