Question Best Lighting Technique Books and Web Sites

May I ask those photographers here, what books and web sites that are specifically related to lighting for photography were great to learn from?

Thanks!

Hi rnbluvva,I think it really depends on what your lighting its a pretty broad subject portraits, still life, food etc ...each one is different so if you could be more specific what you want to light someone might be able to point you in the direction you want to go

Hi zganie,

Thanks for the reply. How silly of me not to be specific, I'm sorry. There are a zillion things to light!

I am looking at lighting for portraits.... indoor, outdoor type things. Not traditional portraiture, but more creative type stuff.

Hope this helps you with your recommendations.

Thanks!

www.lightingtechniques.com has some nice tutorials.

It would also be good to know what lights you have to work with. For instance, if you only have an external camera flash you should check ...

Re: Best Lighting Technique Books and Web Sites

So far we just have a Flash and bracket. I am not sure of the name of the flash. I know it's not the on-board one. It's one my boyfriend bought in the Canon line.

We're looking into buying lights, but it just depends on what budget we can get together.

Thanks for those links. If I get the brand name of the flash, I'll post it here.

Take a look at this man's website -- there is a lot of information, and he is/was a working pro photographer. He also posts on DPreview.com in the Lighting Technique forum (and others) and answers specific questions.

Re: Best Lighting Technique Books and Web Sites

Actually, the best way to improve your lighting techniques is to get a couple of studio lamps and a subject and just move them around to see what works for you.Albert Watson who was quite well known a few years back wrote a small article on lighting saying basically this take a day and play around, using different set ups blocking light at different angles etc...

hope this helps somewhat Zganie

If you are totally new to studio lighting, try www.lightingmagic.com - Scott has a way with words that makes it totally easy to learn and not be intimidated by lighting.
