Skiing with camera

I was wondering if anyone has gone skiing with their DSLR. I wanted to bring my 30D, 70-200mm f/2.8, and maybe a small tripod on the mountain with me.

Is there a way to do it without the potential of damaging the equipment?

I suppose it would depend on the level of your skiing expertise. For myself, it would be a very great potential!

shaunx, I manage a photography concession that shoots both action photos and portraits of guests at ski resorts. On any given winter day we have between 7 and 18 photographers on the mountain(s) armed with nikon D70s and lenses. regardless if they are skiing or snowboarding the best advice we can give them to protect their equipment is to keep it dry and remember they are phtographers first and skiers/boarders second. Save the moguls and big air for another day.

When I'm skiing taking pics is usually the last thing on my mind, I always carry a small portable with me, but seldom seem to use it.

As for carting a DSLR and tripod around I just can't imagine it. I suppose some sort of backpack would be best for balance, my friend has one made by Lowe Alpine that was made for carrying photo equipment, it's well padded and as far as I know has good water repellency.

I do skiing rarely but i have the balance in it.but dont have balance to carry camera while skiing..??

ok i will backpack it..i have to check whether it is water repellents
