Smoking Rose - a series

I have been working on a series of shots. Over 500 shots taken these are the best of those in my opinion. Enjoy and please add your comments if you feel so inclined. Good or bad, feedback is how we learn......

Re: Smoking Rose - a series

those are really nice Rob, I wish there was a way i could identify each image ( there may well be but i havent noticed) as there are two where i think the smoke should billow out a bit before it goes up (both seem to be at the same horizontal angle ) and i could also say which is my favorite
But a really nice series

These are great! I didn't go thru the whole lot...did you have any colour ones...? If not, then I think a touch of colour would be great. If there are, then ignore me.

Rob, those are really neat. How did you do it?
and I agree it would be nice to see some color, or would that take away from the effect??

Re: Smoking Rose - a series

Thanks Cathy, the effect is not nearly as dramatic in color. Sorry but I dont have time to explain how I did it right now. I will try to do that tonight at home. I am at work right now.

Re: Smoking Rose - a series

Palms if you hover your mouse over the little thumbnails for a second it will tell you what the file names is. Starting from the left the first one is Smoking Rose 1, then the next one is Smoking Rose 2...etc......I have hundreds of just the smoke. I started out just shooting the smoke to get a handle on the lighting. Then I added the rose.

Actually, I kinda do. I couldnt see this at work because it was blocked by our firewall. I didnt post these here with the idea that they could be redone. I am not mad or trying to be an A-hole. If it is expected that any image post here is free to be manipulated then I am sorry. I will not post anymore that I dont wish to be manipulated. Again not upset at you or anything but since you sorta asked.....

Its a good edit though......

Nope, no 29'ers. Two Racer-X's, One Airborne (road bike) and a couple of frames on the wall. I'm too short really for a 29er to be practicle 5'6". The frame geometry seems to suffer a bit when they try to make em small. Not to mention it just looks funny...

Thanks Ziaphra. Just so you know I have posted stuff here specifically for others to edit. I just spent a lot of time on this series so its kind of a personal body of work, if you get what I mean.

No need to do that. When I got home last night I took a look at the page with my 19 inch monitor and you cant see the thumbnails. At work on my 20 inch monitor you can see them. I am going to adjust the gallery. check back a little later, maybe in 30 minutes or so.....

I dont know what then. It works fine in IE. All the pictures are the same size and the thumbnails are present at the bottom of the main picture. No one else has said they are having any problems. I guess that doesnt mean they arent, just that no one has said so.......

If you go to:

http://www.scatteredlightphotography.com/Webshots

then you can look at the files one at a time.....

Re: Smoking Rose - a series

I had a rare thought cleared out the "private data" incase that didnt help, and hey presto it is working now tumbnails and all

Back to the business in hand now number 3 is my favorite of them all

the ones that i said about the smoke not looking quite right (strange really when the smoke is actually doing that) are numbers 5 and 2

Interesting. My favorite, if I had to pick one, is number 7. Thanks for figuring out what the problem was or I would have spent the rest of the day thinking about it....

Re: Smoking Rose - a series

Rob -- very cool concept and execution!! Using your second link, I really liked the colored smoke by itself also -- "tricolor" and "red & green". Also the "hard knocks" cat, of course. (Palms, be sure to check out that link )

Thanks for sharing -- might get some of our creative juices perking!
