Vote for your favorite photo-March '08 Competition This voting thread is now open and will close close Tuesday April 1st at 2 a.m. (EDT). You may view the entries in the Competition thread or all together here: -- Gallery Voting is open to all RetouchPro members. Post your choices (in this thread) for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd by listing the member's name. If you want to explain your reasons, please do. Vote for the 3 entries you like the best - you might consider how well a photo captures your attention, how well it deals with the subject, how well it fits with the chosen theme, how well the technical details are handled -- lighting, composition, sharpness, etc., -- you are the judge of what appeals to you and what is important to you in an image and the subject category. Votes will be weighted to give greater weight to First Place votes than to Second and greater weight to Second than to Third place votes. When you place a vote for First Place, that entry will receive four (4) points; when you place a vote for Second, that entry will receive two (2) points, and a vote for Third Place will receive one (1) point. 1. Entry X (their name) - First Place 2. Entry A (their name) - Second Place 3. Entry C (their name) - Third Place The winner will be notified and will choose a subject for April.

Re: Vote for your favorite photo-March '08 Competi Whew! Picking a favorite was difficult. Each were individual and each had something that grabbed me. I went back and forth several times and finally tossed a coin for first. 1. DWThomp won the toss. Ansel Adams would be proud of this one. The black and white conversion is superb. The story it tells is poignant and relevant. I love the composition. You got this one at the right time of day. 2. Sweetlight. The composition is nearly perfect. The subject is well thought out and the picture tells a story. The post processing (I assume there was some) gave it a surreal feel to me. I assume that was what you were trying to achieve. Great work!!! 3. Again, on the third, I had to toss a coin. It landed on the edge. So there you have it. Indecisive as can be, but posted for posterity. Janet

Re: Vote for your favorite photo-March '08 Competi Voting is never easy... 1. Sweetlight - Overall, the extensive depth of field works to show the detail and line and form of the paving and the interior walls of the subway. The play of light and shadows is everywhere - the foreground, the background, the figure silhouette. 2. DWThomp - I really like the strong element of the foreground cross and the repetition of the cross on the church and the in the shadow. I wish the wire fence had not been there as its shadow is distracting to me. 3. I'm torn between several, but have chosen Janet Petty. The exposure is good as well as the composition, and it fits well into the theme. I really like the overall mood of Morpheus1870's image, but the slightly burned out highlights distracted me. Lee the Flea's gulls in a row are also appealing to me, although the overall under-exposure threw me off. These are just personal feelings, and not criticisms since the theme of "light and shadows" is evident in each of them.

Re: Vote for your favorite photo-March '08 Competi Fist off, all were excellent photos. However, coming on the heels of last month's theme, Backlight, this month had some entries that were a bit too similar for me. For competition purposes, It seemed as though there should be better distance between the two and as a result I may have unjustly leaned away from those that depended on backlighting to create their images featuring light and shadow. If these two themes had been a month, or better yet months, apart I may have voted differently. Again, great work everyone! here are my votes 1) DWThorp 2) Morpheus1870 3) CJSwartz Alan

Re: Vote for your favorite photo-March '08 Competi I enjoyed all the photographs but especially Lee The Flee, Sweetlight and Groovigyrl. In my opinion the three that use 'light and shadows' the best are: 1 2:CJSwartz 3:JanetPetty
