Re: would you risk it to get this shot?

I think while busy giving my masters lesson in photography I neglected to mention that no way in hell would you get me on that gargoyle no matter how many ropes, cables or chains you used to secure me. Sorry for the lecture if it seemed that way. I do a lot of work in Montana, sometimes finding myself around 6'000 feet near the continental divide but even though you are that high you are still on level land. The grand canyon gave me shakey knees although you can't resist looking over the edge at the pure beauty. Somewhere there is a rendering of an idea for a high end hotel that someone is going to build over the canyon. If any of you have seen that one, it's freaky and no way could I sleep there.

Maybe photographers need a spotter. A local guy was hit by a car a couple months ago. He stepped out into the street trying to "get the shot" and didn't look.

I'm sure the guy in this series by Hans van de Voorst would risk it:

And watch the video on this site. It's by a hiker who walked the infamous Camino del Rey trail with a camera in his hand. " (...) many people have died hiking it. Why? Because it’s crumbling in spots, has no handrails, and is generally falling apart." Some people have no fear.

when you see it from this vantage point, you realize it isn't a straight drop down:
