Monthly Photo Competition - July 2008

The theme for this month's competition has been chosen by the
1st Place WINNER of our June 2008 competition -- K_GiMiNi_M

K_GiMiNi_M has chosen the theme "Patriotism". This seems a natural for those of us in the United States with our Fourth of July / Independence Day celebrations scheduled for this weekend, but our forum members truly come from all over the world -- South America, Europe, Australia, Africa, Asia, (and if we are successful in finding life on Mars this month, we might add Martians to our membership ), so we can hope to see images from many countries applauding their memories of home. Patriotism at its best is a simple love for our birthplace and the people and traditions that helped us grow to be the people we are -- that should give us a wide choice of possibilities, and hopefully lead us to some good eating at outdoor picnics.


Deadline for submitting your image:Tuesday July 29th, 2008 at 10pm PDT.


Each member may submit only one entry for this competition. You may change your entry (or submit another entry in its place) up until the deadline.

The goal of these friendly competitions is to inspire members to grab our camera and actually use it. New photos are our goal, but we also accept recently photographed/recently processed images that fit the topic also. Honor system applies.

We'd love to hear any shooting info you have (shutter speed, ISO, f-stop) as well as any regular photographic post-processing -- cropping, levels, saturation, dodge/burn, etc.
Note: This is NOT the forum for photo art filters or art programs - let's keep the photos looking like photos.

Entries may be deleted if they do not meet criteria (nudity, photo art, etc.), but we do not encourage arguing about entries -- the voters will decide which images they prefer.

What does the winner get? The winner gets to choose the next assignment PLUS gets all the nice accolades that come from being chosen "Winner". (No, a Brinks truck does not arrive with a large check...)

Post your photo submissions in this thread, and we'll have a separate thread for discussion of this assignment and your comments regarding any of the entries that strike your fancy.

All RetouchPro members may take part in the competition and all members may vote, whether they have submitted an entry or not.

I'm posting a different photo for this contest. I feel this one has better quality and tells a nicer story. It is patriotic with the flag and it is one of the those nice American icons. This is Old Mission Lighthouse in Northern Michigan taken July 10th, 2008.

changing submission to a photo that I haven't manipulated -- Canon 20D with settings for saturation and contrast increased--shutter speed 1/2500th --
f stop 5.6 -- ISO 100 -- focal length 135 mm
