Photo Competition - August 2008 Click for Info on how to size and attach images to your posts The theme for this month's competition has been chosen by the 1st Place WINNER of our July 2008 competition -- CathyH CathyH has chosen the theme "Pets". Most people have pets, and those who don't know many people who do have them -- the pet doesn't have to be your own, so there's no restriction to your entering this month's competition. If it's too hot to go out, get your pet near window light or use one or more flash attachments (your cat may not like it). Here's a chance to show off your pet, so get out the comb/brush, play with your dog/cat/iguana/monkey and get them in a good mood for a photo shoot, and let's see how cute they really are! Deadline for submitting your image: Friday August 29th, 2008 at 10pm PDT. Each member may submit only one entry for this competition. You may change your entry (or submit another entry in its place) up until the deadline. The goal of these friendly competitions is to inspire members to grab our camera and actually use it. New photos are our goal, but we also accept recently photographed/recently processed images that fit the topic also. Honor system applies. We'd love to hear any shooting info you have (shutter speed, ISO, f-stop) as well as any regular photographic post-processing -- cropping, levels, saturation, dodge/burn, etc. Note: This is NOT the forum for photo art filters or art programs - let's keep the photos looking like photos. Entries may be deleted if they do not meet criteria (nudity, photo art, etc.), but we do not encourage arguing about entries -- the voters will decide which images they prefer. What does the winner get? The winner gets to choose the next assignment PLUS gets all the nice accolades that come from being chosen "Winner". (No, a Brinks truck does not arrive with a large check...) Post your photo submissions in this thread, and we'll have a separate thread for discussion of this assignment and your comments regarding any of the entries that strike your fancy. All RetouchPro members may take part in the competition and all members may vote, whether they have submitted an entry or not.

Re: Photo Competition - August 2008 Well here is my entry. I have been trying to get a nice photo of my black cat, she is very hard to get the exposure correct on. Shot in Aperture priority F 5 It was still a little over exposed.

Re: Photo Competition - August 2008 ISO 100 F/3.5 1/250 sec 50mm foc length This was my first "formal" animal portrait taken this June. I was actually photographing the kids at a client's home and at the last minute we decided to get the family pet in. She was extremely nervous but I made some high pitch noises to get her to perk up her ears just enough to get a few good shots in. Grace

Re: Photo Competition - August 2008 Bonnie was rescued by a friend of mine. Her mother was hit by a car. Bonnie was the only survivor. Now my friend is her mother and the love of her life. Janet

Re: Photo Competition - August 2008 Hi there I am at my wits end. I have Adobe Photoshop Edition 3.2 and no matter how hard I try, I cannot get a photo to post to your thread. How does one post to the competition's thread. When I select attachments - it does not open anything.

Re: Photo Competition - August 2008 I'm caring for my brother's cats, but Charlie thinks I'm way too slow filling his plate. Shot indoors -- 800 ISO, shutter - 1/60, f4.5 with 55-200mm zoom at about 80mm Post includes cropping and reduction of "devil eye" effect on pupils.
