Vote for your Favorite Photo - August

This voting thread is now open and will close this Sunday August 31st at 10pm (PDT)

You may view the entries in the Competition thread or all together here: --

Voting is open to all RetouchPro members.

Post your choices (in this thread) for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd by listing the member's name. If you want to explain your reasons, please do.

Vote for the 3 entries you like the best - you might consider how well a photo captures your attention, how well it deals with the subject, how well it fits with the chosen theme, how well the technical details are handled -- lighting, composition, sharpness, etc., -- you are the judge of what appeals to you and what is important to you in an image and the subject category.

Votes will be weighted to give greater weight to First Place votes than to Second and greater weight to Second than to Third place votes. When you place a vote for First Place, that entry will receive four (4) points; when you place a vote for Second, that entry will receive two (2) points, and a vote for Third Place will receive one (1) point.

1. Entry X (their name) - First Place
2. Entry A (their name) - Second Place
3. Entry C (their name) - Third Place

The winner will be notified and will choose a subject for September.

1. Frank Lopes - nice color and texture, good expression on the dog.
2. Gracelight - nice lighting, I like the formal portrait look.
3. CJ - tells a good store.

Everyone did a great job. Take pet portraits is a real challenge.

Re: Vote for your Favorite Photo - August

My criteria probably differs a lot from others for this thread.

1. CJ. Clear, sharp, ATTITUDE, typical of a cat.
2. Frank Lopes. Wish for a bit more warmth and contrast. But again, the picture clearly shows the big, slobbery, but cuddly huge dog. Love the expression.
3. Gracelight. Formal portrait or background retouched? Never mind. I like the bright-eyed expression and playful attitude.

Some of the reasons I didn't pick the others even though they had good qualities? Personal preferences.

Re: Vote for your Favorite Photo - August

Such a handsome/lovely group of cats, dogs, opposum, and ducks! Can't decide who is the cutest, so have to decide which photos are well composed, well focused, well lit, and show a good pose.

1st - Gracelight....The portrait of Venus is well composed and posed with good lighting (can see both eyes) and has no distractions in the background. Venus's smile shows a LOT of personality!

2nd - Janet Petty...Bonnie Baby shows off her big eyes (and cute rounded ears) with a bit of her environment included. Both eyes lit enough to see. Good composition and focus and a sweet pose.

3rd - DiamondsDr47....It's such a teensy image that it's harder to judge, but I see good lighting (shiny yet very black coat), good composition with a cute pose and no distractions in background, and it is in sharp focus (but Waay too small for easy viewing!).

Close runner-ups: Frank's Cooper - I know how hard it is to get the eyes to show with a "droopy-expression dog", but I'd still like to see some light thrown at them to get a peek of eye; Yvonne's Max - cute pose and it is actually sharp on the hat and some of the hair, but the nose/eyes don't seem sharp or show up enough for me; Swarbee's Crissy - the bright light in the background meets up with the out of focus body and doesn't work for me - I think another pose that keeps the body more in focus with the face would work better; CathyH - figuring out what to include in the focus puzzles me sometimes when there are plants around my animals - I think a wider angle lens that kept the vine and cat both in focus would have worked better (or a different location) - the vine bothers my view of your handsome cat. Love his perturbed expression!; ScubaMargie's ducks show their environment, but I think there's too much distraction in the background; K_Gimini_M - cute pose - I like the rear foot showing up, but the out of focus pillow (or whatever) on the left-front is very distracting. CJSwartz - dirty floor is distracting.
