Re: New Canon 5D ...

This is really nice! Love to get one, but as far as the price has dropped from the original 5d, I still have to save my change and go for the Xsi. Well my Rebel D300 is still hanging in there with its last grip. Hopefully it will for a little longer!

It is incredible that they can fit a full frame into such a small footprint and not have heat issues with the chip.

I just can't figure Canon out anymore. The 1D Mark 111 is almost at an age where you would expect another interation and the AI focus issues are still in question for some shooting scenarios. My confidence wanes in this Giant after some 40 years of loyalty and many, many thousands of $$$ invsted in their system,

Technology...but seems they didn't fix autofocus, but since most of my shooting is manual, i might upgrade my 5D for those tweaks of MKII. And maybe can fun adapting it to my 4x5... But definitely not going to upgrade before i test it for specific subject matter...

Re: New Canon 5D ...

I've learned my lesson not to jump to the next upgrade until the reviews are out...what appears good on paper often doesn't perform as expect. Hopefully, the reviews will be outstanding. Like the reader said above, I can't understand Canon. In the past 1.5 years, the reviews of Nikons D300 and D3 have kicked Canon's ass, and Canon has gotten crushed with regards to the AF on Mark III. I have expected Canon to respond accordingly...but like many of us...we have too much invested in glass to change from just one generation of critique.

Good read...I can understand the disconnect between what marketing wants to promote and what research can deliver.

...reminds me a CPU race, it's about time to implement 16-bit processing, oh well probably soon...

The good think is that the old 5d becomes cheaper so that student might afford it

I gotta be honest, having bought the 1DS Mk3 right when it came out and dropping 8 grand on it, having this come out not even a year later for a third of the price really pissed me off.

Re: New Canon 5D ...

I actually sent an email to canon letting them know how I feel. I mean Im all for technological advances, but this is getting ridiculous, it makes me wary to continue to invest in new technology simply becasue if its going to be obsolete within months, whats the point. Not saying that the 5d mk2 makes my mk3 obsolete by any means, but its certainly nipping at the heels for much less money, plus the f***in thing shoots HD video, which is pretty sweet. Now I love my 1DS, its a monster, Ive hammered nails into wood with it, Ive beaten the crap out of crack heads with it and it keeps shooting just fine, its got better battery, better AF, and is heavy duty, but could i opt to save the money and get a 5d mk2 , well, Id buy three mk2s and have extras shoudl I need.

Re: New Canon 5D ...

1Ds mk3 is the king anyways. 5D mk2 is a toy, but a cool one. There is a big gap between 1 and 5 if we look at cameras body and feel.

Re: New Canon 5D ...

That would be like going into a Porsche dealership, and buying a new 911 GT2 for $200k, and then 8 months later, they build a boxster that has 500 hp and the same brakes and suspension for $60k
