| Photo Competition - October 2008 Entries are now being accepted for October's competition -- make a post in this thread and attach your entry. Be sure to make it as large as possible within the forum's restriction to images less than 100k - read the link below for help in sizing your image if you are new to the forum - Click for Info on how to size and attach images to your posts The theme for this month's competition has been chosen by the 1st Place WINNER of our September 2008 competition -- swarbees Swarbees has chosen the subject "Architecture", and adds "There are always buildings and structures around that catch one's eye--just have to have the camera along..." Deadline for submitting your image(s): Wednesday October 29th, 2008 at 10pm PDT. Each member may submit only one entry for this competition, but it may be more than one photo. All entry photos must be included in the one entry post. You may change your entry (by submitting another entry in its place) up until the deadline. The goal of these friendly competitions is to inspire members to grab our camera and actually use it. New photos are our goal, but we also accept recently photographed/recently processed images that fit the topic also. Honor system applies. We'd love to hear any shooting info you have (shutter speed, ISO, f-stop) as well as any regular photographic post-processing -- cropping, levels, saturation, dodge/burn, etc. Note: This is NOT the forum for photo art filters or art programs - let's keep the photos looking like photos. Entries may be deleted if they do not meet criteria (nudity, photo art, etc.), but we do not encourage arguing about entries -- the voters will decide which images they prefer. What does the winner get? The winner gets to choose the next assignment PLUS gets all the nice accolades that come from being chosen "Winner". (No, a Brinks truck does not arrive with a large check...) Post your photo submissions in this thread, and we'll have a separate thread for discussion of this assignment and your comments regarding any of the entries that strike your fancy. All RetouchPro members may take part in the competition and all members may vote, whether they have submitted an entry or not. Last edited by CJ Swartz; 10-29-2008 at 11:25 AM. | Re: Photo Competition - October 2008 Kudos to the person who chose this subject. As always I try to dig a bit deeper into the subject and put some sort of twist on it sometimes. In my mind I think we all have a pretty concrete idea of what the word means as we use it in our vocabulary but once I saw the definition I realized that this assignment could be twisted in all sorts of directions with what it can actually reference. Maybe this will help those yet to post. I had a hard time choosing this one because I have shot quite a bit of architecture but I have always liked this shot such a gloomy day on what covers such a splendid explosion of site and sound. For those of you who are less experienced this is a perfect example of how colors become really saturated on such a weather day. As I walked around this tent I fell in love with it's line and colors then nearly had a heart attach because for some reason on the middle peak I swore it looked like a body hanging from the pole and downward left. Too much I can spook myself sometimes. Anyways, good to see everyone, I have been up in Vancouver on a long shoot. Hope you enjoy this and I lookforward to your ideas and critques. c ar·chi·tec·ture Spelled Pronunciation[ahr-ki-tek-cher] Pronunciation Key - –noun 1. the profession of designing buildings, open areas, communities, and other artificial constructions and environments, usually with some regard to aesthetic effect. Architecture often includes design or selection of furnishings and decorations, supervision of construction work, and the examination, restoration, or remodeling of existing buildings. 2. the character or style of building: the architecture of Paris; Romanesque architecture. 3. the action or process of building; construction. 4. the result or product of architectural work, as a building. 5. buildings collectively. 6. a fundamental underlying design of computer hardware, software, or both. 7. the structure of anything: the architecture of a novel. |

| Re: Photo Competition - October 2008 hi Here is my entry. It was a beautiful day and the cider mill was jammed with people all enjoying it. I think it is kind of an odd angle and no depth because of the angle. |
