| Photo Competition - November 2008 Entries are now being accepted for November's competition -- make a post in this thread and attach your entry. Be sure to make it as large as possible within the forum's restriction to images less than 100k - read the link below for help in sizing your image if you are new to the forum - Click for Info on how to size and attach images to your posts The theme for this month's competition has been chosen by the 1st Place WINNER of our October 2008 competition -- Frank Lopes Frank has chosen the theme "Fall. Deadline for submitting your image(s): Friday November 28th, 2008 at 10pm MST. Each member may submit only one entry for this competition. You may change your entry (by submitting another entry in its place) up until the deadline. The goal of these friendly competitions is to inspire members to grab our camera and actually use it. New photos are our goal, but we also accept recently photographed/recently processed images that fit the topic also. Honor system applies. We'd love to hear any shooting info you have (shutter speed, ISO, f-stop) as well as any regular photographic post-processing -- cropping, levels, saturation, dodge/burn, etc. Note: This is NOT the forum for photo art filters or art programs - let's keep the photos looking like photos. Entries may be deleted if they do not meet criteria (nudity, photo art, etc.), but we do not encourage arguing about entries -- the voters will decide which images they prefer. What does the winner get? The winner gets to choose the next assignment PLUS gets all the nice accolades that come from being chosen "Winner". (For the newbies - No, a Brinks truck does not arrive with a large check...) Post your photo submissions in this thread, and we'll have a separate thread for discussion of this assignment and your comments regarding any of the entries that strike your fancy. All RetouchPro members may take part in the competition and all members may vote, whether they have submitted an entry or not. Last edited by CJ Swartz; 11-22-2008 at 02:21 AM. | Re: Photo Competition - November 2008 A picture I grabbed just a at least a few weeks ago. I was asked to take pictures by a lady that had MS & she wasn't able to get around there herself. So I did it free of charge, if it was somebody that was able to it I would of charged. I'm no photog by any means. So I grabbed this while I was there. About a week after they had dug up all the flowers for the end of fall. So i did it just in time. |

| Re: Photo Competition - November 2008 We are currently on a road trip through Utah and spent some time in Zion National Park. The fall colors are brilliant and I got a lot of photos which would have been fine for this months assignment but I liked the challenge proposed by Frank and Janet to try a different interpretation. So my entry is my first try at a soft waterfall image. I have a few waterfall images that stop the motion but this is the first slow shutter shot that I have tried. Taken today at Emerald pools Zion National park. Canon 20D Shutter 1.3 seconds F 36 focal length 120 Camera settings to increased saturation and contrast I don't own an ND for this camera so we had to wait until the late afternoon sun was behind the ridge. Even then it was a little too light--I would have liked a 2 or 3 second exposure--oh well. Post processing included levels and slight shadow highlight adjustment for blown out areas. Couldn't get all the blow out though. Added noise reduction -- Last edited by swarbees; 11-15-2008 at 08:32 PM. |
