Re: Camera survey

I have a Canon point and shoot for family gatherings and vacations. I use a Canon Power Shot Pro and shoot raw for anything work related.

Thumbs up Re: Camera survey

I've always used Canon cameras, although I did try a Nikon once, but stuck with Canon. I now have a Canon 50D, and just love it.

Why wasn't the Mamiya (RB67) in the survey?

Re: Camera survey

Two reasons:
  1. I selected the top 10 market share brands for 2007 (2008 hasn't been published yet)
  2. Even if I wanted to include other cameras, the survey tool only allows for 10 possibilities
I supposed I could have included an "other" category as the tenth possibility, but that only occurred to me after people started to vote and I did not want to change the votes that were already in place.

Re: Camera survey

To get a better idea of who shoots what maybe there should be a poll for professional and non professional user cameras as most of the above fall into the later category.

Re: Camera survey

Frank, this sample size seems pretty small. Statistics for 2007 showed Canon and Nikon owning 86% of the total DSLR units shipped in 2007 with Canon 5 pts ahead of Nikon but with Nikon gaining rapidly. It will be interesting to see what the 2008 results look like.

Re: Camera survey

I was a Minolta shooter for the time before children. Now I'm a Canon person all the way. It is too expensive to switch back and forth between brands. It looks like I'll be Canon until I die.

Impressions:

Welcome to RP. Impressive (no pun intended) Canon lineup. Esp. liked the "point and pray" description!

============

Me: Upgraded from a Nikon D70s to a D300 in 2008.

Just took delivery (this week) of a Fuji FinePix F1000fd pocket camera; the $100 rebate offer and very favorable review at DPReview convinced me to give this model a shot. Very impressive so far.

I seriously think I need camera's AA, I'm looking at the 50D now and the 40D isn't even a year old yet.

also going to add a couple more "L" glass lenses to my collections.

Re: Camera survey

I currently have a Canon 20D and a Canon 50D. I have had the 20D for about six years and it is still working great, especially for the price. I use a Canon 70-200mm f2.8 L series lens for both indoor and outside action shots. I also use the "Nifty Fifty" for indoor action. I don't have the money just yet, but some day I want to add the 24-70mm f2.8 L series and the 300mm f2.8 L series lenses to my arsenal. When I have those I will set my sites on the 200mm f2 L series. I rented the 300mm this past summer and it was extremely impressive. It was not as heavy as I expected and the bokeh it provided was awesome!!!

I started with Nikon Coolpix 8800 but not for long time [few months only] then i ended up now with 7 Canon DSLRs only, and recently few weeks ago i added Hasselblad H3DII-39mp to my gear line.

Re: Camera survey

Actually, I guess I've got a foot in both worlds. In addition to the Nikon D80, I have as a pocket cam a Canon PowerShot SD600, which is a really good little camera. And since I started out in digital with an Oly C750, I'm interested in their new offering, the SP-590UZ.

Re: Camera survey

MisterMonday...unfortunately, Nikon has been kicking Canon's ass since D300, D700 and D3. I've read nothing bad. All reviews and options from users have been outstanding. Canon on the other hand has had nothing but issues with the AF of their MarkIII camera line (according to users). Low light also gets better reviews with Nikon. At the moment, I have too many lenses to change, but I've been tempted. I am hoping Canon gets their act back on track.

Re: Camera survey

Both Canon and Nikon are excellent systems! It seems that every so often one manufacturer comes out with something outstanding, but within a few months the other maker catches up.

I've owned the Nikon system since the original Nikon F, so when I moved into digital it was natural to chose Nikon (especially since I had all that glass). Currently I have the D200 and D300, and plan on getting the full frame D3x. But in the last year I've used the Canon 40 and found it excellent.

Re: Camera survey

I use both Fuji S3 Pro and Fuji S5 Pro. I had Nikon before, but I'm more happy with Fuji's CCD. Using 70-200 f2.8, 11-14 f2.8 and 28-105 f2.8-f4.0 lenses (and a Fuji F100fd if I just want to make nice pictures and don't want to carry >3Kg camera and lens(es).)
