January 2009 Photo Competition: Entries

Entries are now being accepted for January's competition -- make a post in this thread and attach your entry. Be sure to make it as large as possible within the forum's restriction to images less than 100k - read the link below for help in sizing your image if you are new to the forum -

Click for Info on how to size and attach images to your posts

The theme for this month's competition has been chosen by the 1st Place WINNER of our December 2008 competition -- CathyH

CathyH has chosen the theme "Taking a closer look" and I quote:
"How about taking a closer look. Like close ups of stuff?
Cathy"

Deadline for submitting your image(s):
Friday January 30th, 2009 at Midnight EST.

Each member may submit only one entry for this competition. You may change your entry (by submitting another entry in its place) up until the deadline.

The goal of these friendly competitions is to inspire members to grab our camera and actually use it. New photos are our goal, but we also accept recently photographed/recently processed images that fit the topic also. Honor system applies.

We'd love to hear any shooting info you have (shutter speed, ISO, f-stop) as well as any regular photographic post-processing -- cropping, levels, saturation, dodge/burn, etc.

Note: This is NOT the forum for photo art filters or art programs - let's keep the photos looking like photos.

Entries may be deleted if they do not meet criteria (nudity, photo art, etc.), but we do not encourage arguing about entries -- the voters will decide which images they prefer.

What does the winner get? The winner gets to choose the next assignment PLUS gets all the nice accolades that come from being chosen "Winner". (For the newbies - No, a Brinks truck does not arrive with a large check...)

Post your photo submissions in this thread, and we'll have a separate thread for discussion of this assignment and your comments regarding any of the entries that strike your fancy.

All RetouchPro members may take part in the competition and all members may vote, whether they have submitted an entry or not.

We were driving down the road just before a rainstorm when this ugly bug attached itself to the windshield. Luckily, it was a photo day out and we all had cameras. I was able to get right up to the glass and shoot it from the underside.

Canon 40D
60 mm macro lens
ISO 200
F-5
1/800 of a second
Photoshop post processing reduced the exposure in Camera Raw by 1/3 stop.

Hi
We have had a lot of snow this winter and it is making a lot of nice ice cycles and the sun came out, so I thought I would go and see what I could photograph today.

Re: January 2009 Photo Competition: Entries

Unlike Danny, the only kind of rain we see this time of year is frozen. Although like today, there's a layer of snow on the ice. Just a branch of my Allspice bush. I was amazed when I looked at it on the computer to see the snowflake in the lower right. No idea if it was in the air or clinging to the branch.
Picture taken January 29 at 12:30 pm.
Cropped and levels adjusted.
Kodak 2712 IS
