Re: February 2009 Photo Competition: Discussion I'm going to be the first to post and apologize for not voting or much of anything in the last competition. We had a huge, devastating ice storm across the area I live in; and we were without power for nearly a week. When the power came back on last night, I tried to post this in the January discussion thread but found it locked. If I had been able to vote, it would have gone like this: Danny Raphael for his stunning drops, which were spot on with focus, crop, and color balance. CathyH for her very cold, crisp, dripless icicle. Great colors. Swarbees for the very creative, colorful, well-designed composition of glasses. Janet

My entry For all of you that are curious how come an Alfa-Romeo car has Ferrari stickers on, let me explain. During the 30's Enzo Ferrari drove for and prepared race cars for Alfa-Romeo, the preeminent Italian racing manufacturer. His private performance shop, Scudderia Ferrari, became so famous that he tried to wrestle way from Ferrari control over the competition team. When Alfa-Romeo refused, Enzo Ferrari left and started producing what became the most famous brand of racing cars ever: Ferrari. This car, the 1930 Tipo B "P3" model, is the sole survivor of the group of 5 built.

Re: February 2009 Photo Competition: Discussion I didn't vote either -- our 30th anniversary was that weekend and we went to Victoria, BC but we left before the voting thread was open and thread was closed when we got back. My vote wouldn't have changed the outcome but would have been; Cathy 1st, Janet 2nd and Danny 3rd. I don't really think its about the outcome though. For me the voting is about everyone's feedback and impressions. Janet, My daughters boyfriend is a lineman in Texas and they told him to pack for a month. That was about a week ago. Good to hear your electricity is back on and hopefully things are getting back to normal. Have fun with Red everyone!!! Sandi

Re: February 2009 Photo Competition: Discussion CathyH, in your entry you mentioned that you shot it with a Nikon D40 and a "couple of different flashes". The D40 has the ability to remotely trigger flashes? Which flashes did you use?

Re: February 2009 Photo Competition: Discussion Hi Frank I used 3 different flashes, after making sure the pop up flash was working I put on the SB600 pointing to the ceiling. then I used 2 optical slaves with some old flashes aimed from the sides. Vivitar 2800 D, Nikon speedlight SB15. At first I was very disappointed because the D40 and the SB600 wouldn't fire other flashes - but my husband figured out this way of getting our old flashes to work. This was our first real try at it. This was a very inexpensive way of getting what we wanted. search this on ebay to see the slaves. "SKY-3 Wireless Slave Trigger for Hot Shoe" cathy
