February 2009 Photo Competition: Votes

The voting period has began:
February 26, 6:00pm EST to February 28, 10:00pm EST

Voting Tabulation:

• Vote for the 3 entries you like the best by considering how well a photo captured your attention, how well it dealt with the subject, how well it fits with the chosen theme and how well the technical details were handled.

• Votes are weighted to give greater weight to First Place votes than to Second and greater weight to Second than to Third place votes. When you place a vote for First Place, that entry will receive four (4) points; when you place a vote for Second, that entry will receive two (2) points, and a vote for Third Place will receive one (1) point:
  • Entry X (their name) - First Place
  • Entry A (their name) - Second Place
  • Entry C (their name) - Third Place

• In case of a tie, first place will be giving to the person with the most "first place" votes

• If there is still a tie, first place will be giving to the person with the most "second place" votes

• If there is still a tie, first place will be giving to the person with the most "third place" votes

• The winner will be notified and will choose a subject for the following month.

So many great red photographs and so few votes to give out. This was really hard.

1. Danny Raphael. Correctly exposed and saturated. Beautifully executed. My husband saw this and said, "Ohhh, I like that one." Therefore, Danny gets first place votes.

2. CathyH. Creative, well exposed, great depth-of-field. I liked this one a lot. I wonder what I would look like in BW???

3. OlBaldy. Not quite enough saturation on my monitor. But overall, this one was superb and my favorite for creativity and humor.

Honorable mentions to everyone else. There is some very nice work in the posts this month.

Mr.Tee, your silhouette and the sky are stunning. I can see this printed and hung as a showcase somewhere.

Gimini 1, your red pepper was great. The depth-of-field lacked a little. However, when I saw what camera you used to shoot the picture, I was able to compensate for that and judge it on its own merits. Nice job.

Rag, Beautiful rose but on my monitor it is way over saturated. Enough so that detail was lost. Otherwise, I can see why it was your wife's favorite. I like the black background and often do that with my own pictures. Funny how others think it is fake, huh?

Fpellerin, are those red cinnamon candies? Very clever whatever they are.

Mr Lopes, Sir, your auto, WOW. Tough to make a car interesting. You succeeded. And a Ferrari to boot. Nice job.

Swarbees, nice photo of the red Chinese costumes. On my second look, I actually notice the one Caucasian. The look on the poor guy's face really helps make the photo more interesting for me. Good catch.

Nice group of photos everyone.
1. Swarbees - sharp and crisp
2. OBaldy - taking photos of neon is hard
3. mrtee - the sun set is good, but it really helped to have the silhouette in it.

Thought all the images were well done, not easy to choose

This one was hard so I enlisted some input from a family member---

1. Frank Lopes, Alfa Romeo --actually we agreed on this one. This is a striking photo. Crystal clear with great composition. I'm not an auto buff at all and this photo caught my attention anyway.

2. Cathy H, Lanterns ---Very interesting composition. The colors are rich and I like the close crop.

3. Rag, Red rose ---Just a lovely shot. The dark background really makes the rose pop

Mr Tee --your sunset is beautiful and I needed input from my spouse to break the tie with the Rose. I agree with Janet and Cathy -- the silhouette makes this one exceptional.
