| Re: March 2009 Photo Competition: Discussion for my entry ---I should have paid closer attention to Fstop--I would have liked the whole dress and people in the reflection to be in focus--The whole photo seems a little soft to me but I am limited somewhat by inexpensive lenses (so far!). It was low light and pretty noisy. Removed a few distractions on the wall behind bride-to-be and to the right side---also did noise reduction and slight sharpen filter-- And----no she's not married yet---I think she just likes to try on the dresses ;=} |

| Re: March 2009 Photo Competition: Discussion I wish I could have got my picture sharper. It was taken on a perfectly still morning with dense freezing fog that had been lingering for a few days- I was fumbling about with thick gloves on and ended up deleting most attempts - blurry/out of focus (no tripod). I've been back a few times, and this swan is always there with its mate, but the water has never been as smooth as it was on that foggy morning. I still like this picture despite its faults though. |

| Re: March 2009 Photo Competition: Discussion Wow Danny---that is spectacular---did you do any processing or is that out of the camera with no adjustments? |

| Re: March 2009 Photo Competition: Discussion I agree, the scene in Danny's image is stunning. I would love to see a colour version if you have one Danny. Janet - the water in your image is as smooth as a mirror and the reflections so sharp. If you look at the picture upside down it almost looks the right way up! |

| Re: March 2009 Photo Competition: Discussion My Reflections was taken in my kitchen sink! A dinner plate standing up and the water slowly dripping. The images in the droplets are upside down. Steve |

| Re: March 2009 Photo Competition: Discussion [Quote] Thanks Steve for the explanation, I was wondering how you did it. What kind of lighting did you use and what lens? cathy Hi Cathy! I used a Nikon D300 w/ 105 2.8 macro, and had a SB 800 off the camera, sitting on the kitchen counter, at about 1/4 power. Steve |

| Re: March 2009 Photo Competition: Discussion Quote:
I used Photomatix to create a pseudo-HDR image from a single exposure. Then for the heck of it converted the color version to high-contrast BW in PS CS3 using Nik Silver Efex Pro. Finally I did some local dodging and burning and layer/blend mode gymnastics to further emphasize the clouds and their reflection. |
