March 2009 Photo Competition: Votes

The voting period for this month's contest, is now open.

Voting Period:

• March 28, 6:00pm EST to March 31, 10:00pm EST

Discussion Period:

• March 1, 20009 to March 31, 6:00pm EST

Voting Tabulation:

• Vote for the 3 entries you like the best by considering how well a photo captured your attention, how well it dealt with the subject, how well it fits with the chosen theme and how well the technical details were handled.

• Votes are weighted to give greater weight to First Place votes than to Second and greater weight to Second than to Third place votes. When you place a vote for First Place, that entry will receive four (4) points; when you place a vote for Second, that entry will receive two (2) points, and a vote for Third Place will receive one (1) point:
  • Entry X (their name) - First Place
  • Entry A (their name) - Second Place
  • Entry C (their name) - Third Place

• In case of a tie, first place will be giving to the person with the most "first place" votes

• If there is still a tie, first place will be giving to the person with the most "second place" votes

• If there is still a tie, first place will be giving to the person with the most "third place" votes

• The winner will be notified and will choose a subject for the following month.

2. Stevequad---reflections ----Droplets with reflections inside, I've tried to do this and can't get anywhere near this colorful or interesting
3. Danny Raphael---rattlesnake lake ----I like the classic look of this and the b&w works well for this image I think

Danny Raphael - Stunning conversion to BW too.
Stevequad - Really creative use of reflection.
OhThatGirl - Rather ordinary reflection made extraordinary because of the circular movement of the tree leaves/branches.

I seriously think that the bar was raised significantly on this challenge. There were some superb entries. Kudos to all of us for participating and enjoying this forum.

It's difficult to decide as there are things I like about all of these images but here goes:

1. Danny Raphael - Stunning detail, beautiful landscape reflection, skilled B/W treatment.

2. OhThatGirl2001 - Some detail was lost towards top of the image but the Radial composition of the tree and its reflection really grabbed my attention.

3. Frank Lopes - Clever observation and as sharp as a pin.

I also liked the sharp capture of Janet's reflection in the lake and the striking colour composition in crazyfly1's image.

Stevequad's colourful droplet capture is fantastic, but I think these are refractions rather than reflections and that's why I didn't vote for yours Steve. Maybe refractions would be an interesting subject for a future competition?
