Re: some good photography

Photos like this one I consider an "event" because of the planning, cost, and number of others who help pull it all off. How many I wonder were retouched and to what degree? What % would you consider is the photographer vs the retoucher? Should the retoucher, if not the photographer get some credit? If they have...I just haven't found it so far.

Re: some good photography

now that one was interesting, nasturtium, but maybe not for the reasons one might suspect. if you look at all of his pictures you'll notice, perhaps, that he's what we called a left-hand lighter. i tend to be a left-hand lighter too, but that's not the point. the point is that every shot in that gallery is lit, primarily, from the left, often also up, but always from the left. now, i dont know that that has any other significance to it than just a curiousity, but it's there. there are also right-hand lighters and back-lighters and top-lighters and so on, but if i were to guess, left-hand lighting is the more common. i dont know why, and i certainly cant say that with 100% certainty, but it seems a slightly more common approach. does that make it better? nah. it's just one of those little observations i make from time to time

I noticed the same thing at a Rembrandt school exhibit. It's a classical thing - Dutch golden age painters thought it was divine light that showed off god's creation at it's best. I actually tend to agree.

Re: some good photography

ah, that sounds right, nasturtium (you need a shorter name ). i'm a little curious why they thought divine light only came from the left, but oh well
