| Sun dogs I thought it would be interesting if we could share a thread of this occurrence (maybe not, but I find it fascinating). I think the scientific term is called a parhelion or sun dog. In my lifetime (so far) this is the only one I've ever noticed and was fortunate enough to grab a camera before it was gone. Being an amateur astronomer, I have a tendency to look up, even in the day time. No doubt some of the color dissipated before I was able to snap the image. It lasted about 15 minutes. The image is unaltered, no post processing. |

| Re: Sun dogs Lucky you! I have to try to remember to take my camera with me all the time....Sometimes I encounter nice scenes only to realize that the only capture source I have is my cell phone....grmbl Beautiful shot |

| Re: Sun dogs Lovely photo! Sometimes I see them through my window tint, but not with my naked eye! We travel a lot through Colorado and New Mexico and see Sun dogs quite often there. Also we see some amazing clouds there called lenticular clouds! |
