Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) con't

CJ - I've never been on a group shoot, sounds like a blast. Love the peacefully snoozing horsy and that wooden church is marvelous.

Here's my edits for today. I'm playing with the images from the accompanying disc to How to Cheat at Photoshop

Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) con't

nasturtium,

fascinating that you used the panasonic fx35 (38). i've been watching that camera evolve since the fx18. almost bought that and almost bought the fx28. lol. i still go visit the panasonic site from time to time or dpreview and compare that one and the new 24x optical nikon and the 24x kodak. i still havent decided which i like more, but your pics with the fx35 are quite good, so panasonic gets another point

if the kodak had detachable lenses like the panasonic and a lens ring for filters like the panasonic and time lapse like the nikon, i'd get the kodak in an instant. because the panasonic is 18x and the others 24x, i've hesitated and debated internally for quite a while. i do mostly outdoor shooting so the long telephoto aspect is quite appealing to me.

did you do all the shots in the this thread with the panasonic? if so, those are good quality images in both grain and resolution. i'm impressed.

and btw, you have a very good eye

Craig,

Thanks for the compliment. I am very comfortable with composition and equally uncomfortable with color. :-)

I've moved the camera discussion to the hardware forum.

Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) con't

it's been a very cold january here. thus, our lake has been frozen over for a while now. and recently, we had some of our local geese fly over, but it wasnt until today that i saw one out on the lake. it's not a great shot aesthetically, but i still thought it was cute. you can almost hear the goose's thoughts, 'what in the hell is this? why cant i swim?'

Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) con't

I took this photo a few moments ago on Seabrook Island. I used my canon SX200 which makes Panoramas very easy. What didn't work though was CS4's automate/photomerge.

My mother bought me a tiny wingback chair for doing kid portraits. It gave me this idea, and I just couldn't resist.

Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) con't

Thank you, Sir. I'm particularly proud of that one. It was an idea I had, and it turned out every bit as nice as I hoped it would. It was meant to be Masterpiece Theatre meets Charlie Chaplin. About the only thing I didn't do that I wanted to do was to have the regular English guy who reads the stories tied up and gagged behind the little chair. But alas, there was no one to play the part.

Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) con't

i woke up to this this morning. no, it wasnt in my bedroom, but it was outside my window. about once a year lately, we've been getting at least one semi-surreal winter day. seems today was the one

this was taken with my little kodak 885z. i did run it through a Lab enhance filter in filter forge to bring the colors back (it was a bit overcast when i took the shot) and i also adjusted the contrast a bit, but otherwise, what you see is... cool

Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) con't

Craig, nice photo. It gave me a cold chill. "Over Here" in SC the brown pelicans have sort of moved off the ocean and are wintering on some of the inland lagoons around here to stay warm possibly. At any rate that opened up the opportunity to set up a tripod and take some photos. Here is one of those wintering pelicans.

I shot this last night. There was a whole troupe of about 8 bucks (no does that I saw) ambling through my backyard and eating from trees. This big guy stopped to watch me take photos of them. BTW, I'm not a hunter, but that is 8 points right? Anybody know?

Don't know about the number of antler points, but you get points for capturing a close up image of a big buck. That's some backyard! Nice image.

Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) con't

I don't think it is a 8 pointer.

I think it is a 9 or even maybe a 10 pointer considering how the last point is split in the right hantler.

Crazyflly1-Wow! Awesome capture. Weren't you scared?

We've been talking about making a pilgrimage to this hut in the Alps for years as it sports our last name. This year it was on our way to where were were going and the snow was just right.

Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) con't

that's at least a 10 point buck. nice rack! (must hold tongue and not make lewd comments on my own remarks!)

thanks, nancy. yeah, that morning surprised me. apparently, what had happened was there was a heavy dew and it all crystallized. quite pretty. the whole neighborhood was like that.

great looking lodge. i can almost feel the fireplace and taste the hot toddies and cocoa

Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) con't

Thank you CJ

Frank, makes me almost wish I hunted but I couldn't kill something that awsome unless I was realllllly hungry.

Nasturtium, nah, wasn't scared, I could take him. Kidding, I was on a 200mm about 200 yards out. He seemed content to just watch me watch him.
I like that lodge! Interesting composure too, I'm still trying to learn how to make a picture that draws the eye around like that one does.

Craig, thank you
Nice shot of the hoarfrost!

Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) con't

After a stunning day, the rain came down about 7pm, eased off just before 8pm and we got this strange sunset, through the light rain. Sun was setting fast, so I didn't have time to get an other lens. This was taken with a 17mm-40mm Canon lens.
HDR to bring out as much of the light as possible.

Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) con't

Hey everyone, I been thinking. (I know, you can smell the smoke, right?)
So many great photographers and GWC's, and all over the world. I think we tend to focus on our best shots and most interesting snaps. I wonder, has anyone else here thought about the National Geographic type of possibilities we have here?
Palms in England
Algrave in Spain
Nancy and her travels
Phil and Alex in South Carolina
CJ in Arizona
and Friiskiwi in New Zealand
Oh, and I have lot's of fun examining Craig s Pics and looking for a clue as to where he is.
See what I'm saying? The trees in South Carolina grow with a mossy kinda stuff and are thick with vines, they are so beautiful.
Saguaro cactus grow just a few miles south of Phoenix, and that is THE only place they grow in the world.
I know this is a stupid American statement but you can probably point the camera anywhere in any direction in New Zealand and take a beautiful picture.

You see where I'm going with this. What if we each went outside and took a picture and posted it here once a week? Maybe with a little story about it, maybe with gps coordinates. Could be anything; a restaurant, a ski lodge, a hot spring, an old man, anything. Maybe you see it every day and don't even notice it anymore but someone on the other side of the world could find it fascinating. Algrave does great portraits, but I would love to see what he sees when he looks out his kitchen window, I've never been to Spain. Maybe this is fit for it's own thread. I'm willing to commit to carrying the camera around and try shooting some local Colorado things that Might interest someone who lives on the beach somewhere and has never seen Colorado things. You know?
Let me know if you all think this is a decent idea, or if you think that's pretty much what we already do in this thread.
Look forward to hearing your thoughts.

I think it has sort of been touched upon before briefly but I am like you and think it is a good idea maybe start another thread perhaps with the title "My patch" and maybe link it to a google map ?
but be aware people are weary about giving out the exact locations of where they live etc but surrounding areas should be ok,
Think of it as a education my geography has come on in leaps and bounds since posting here

Re: Photographed TODAY (or Processed today) con't

I've been kicking around the idea of a RetouchPRO group at Flickr but*. Does everyone have an account there? If we geotag our pictures then we could have a map for the group. I think.

As far as me taking a picture a week*. I thought photographers were supposed to follow the light. It's gray and overcast here mostly-making that "magic" Dutch light a rather rare commodity. :-)
