| Re: November 2009 Photo Competition: Votes This contest was very difficult to judge subjectively; and the subject matter was very interesting in all of the photos. I think it is safe to say we raised the bar on this one. 1. Dkcoats pick for black and white conversion is superb. With the conversion, he eliminated all of the garish lights, which in color would have been a distraction to the real subject. His fortunate capture of the moving subject placed the people right at the rule of thirds and leads us into the picture with a sense of motion and fun. 2. CathyH gets my second vote simply because I like abstracts. This one was very well done. It had great tonal range, the overall sharpness was right on, with the exception of the one leaf that is out of focus. 3. KGimini gets the third vote because I liked the simplicity of the subject. I would have liked to see more detail in the wheel and a bit more sharpness. The composition is not static, yet lends itself to a feeling of harmony. -------------------------------------------------------- Sharynideas - The contrast in the snow scene was stunning but a little over sharpened. Beautiful photo. Philbach - Good use of the rule of thirds. Imho, it needed a bit more contrast. Pavel - Good photo with a great story to tell. I do wish the older couple had been walking toward you. But then it may have changed the story you were trying to tell. Nasturtium - The contrast was great. The subject was just a tad busy for my eye to settle somewhere or to move around peacefully within the frame of the picture. Wonderful old building. Wish I was there. I'd take literally dozens of shots. Algarve Images - I LOVED this one. It shows professionalism all the way. The humor tells a story I'd love to hear. The bokeh is perfect. The composition is spot on. Did I mention that I loved this? Great subject. To the others I missed. Don't think your pictures were awful. Because they definitely were not. My mind, being leaky sometimes, can't remember everyone. This contest was great fun. Thanks for the play. And congratulations to the winner, whomever that may be. Janet |

| Re: November 2009 Photo Competition: Votes This was a fun exercise and I thought all of the images were wonderful.. To pick the favorites: 1 Pavel 123---I thought the contrast was perfect and the subject matter really jumped out for me. 2 Algarve --- I liked the composition and that its crystal clear--contrast made this one a great B&W 3 Phil Bach -- I agree with Janet that this one could have used more contrast but I liked the kindof foggy feel to it. But great composition and subject |
