Canon 5D Mark II

Hello Folks!
Shooting in studio, my Canon 5D Mark II with the standard 24-105 lens, set up as: 'one single shot', 'AF one shot', even with stabilizer 'out', frequently freezes and the AF restart after few seconds, which is quite annoying.
Could you suggest me which is the best settlement to avoid or minimize this problem?
Thanks all in advance.

Re: Canon 5D Mark II

I don't have a Canon 5D Mark II, so I did a Google search for "Canon 5D Mark II, AF issues" and found a number of links you might try reading.

One link was to the Photo.net digital SLR forum -- link
which brought up a possible need for servicing - look through all the responses, which range from "user error" to "that's the way all cameras work" to possible need for servicing.

DPreview.com has Canon forums and there are other Canon forums on the web - I'd take a look in those to see if you can find an answer if no one here offers a solution.

Do you have the Canon Service center number? Call them, they are very helpful and they will provide assistance over the phone if they can.

Do you have the latest firmware?

I have a 5DMk2 and had some problems initially but since upgrading the firmware I haven't noticed any focussing problems.

New firmware was just released today (2.0.7). Worth a try.

Re: Canon 5D Mark II

My firmware was already updated to 2.0.4, now is updated to 2.0.7 but my focusing problems are still unsolved. Thanks to all of you.

Re: Canon 5D Mark II

i dont have your camera, but does it have something like 'active focus'? active focus being one that jumps around and keeps finding new focusing spots. and, could that be what you're experiencing? if so, just turn it off. if not, and nothing else in the manual helps, then time to talk to the service folks.
