Watching someone show us how to do something is a great way for many of us to learn, and there are many professionals who are now creating video lessons on YouTube and other sites. Many are free, including the Digital Photography 1 on 1 Series. There are a lot of videos that show studio lighting - sync speed, equipment- light meters, softboxes/reflectors/ and grids, snoots, flags, etc; setups, how/why things work, etc.

Episode 1 - shutter synch, balancing flash and ambient light

Episodes 2- 7 Shows equipment (mostly related to lighting) to help you decide what you might want to use. I'll create a different thread for the Lighting videos.

Episode 10 - lighting ratios

Episode 11 - basic lighting setups

Episode 13 - White Balance (color temperature, setting white balance on your camera)

Episode 16 - Exposure (aperture, shutter speed, ISO - working together)

There are so many resources available to help us learn and places like here and Flickr etc. to post our practice shots and get critiques.

CJ, great message! I remember learning all that stuff the hard way. These type of resources are free and readily available for people to take advantage of to improve their photography.

CJ, the quality of the videos is excellent and professionally done with good content. The instructor is excellent, professional, and clearly very knowledgeable as well. He reminds me a lot of Chris Orwig.

Very nice. Thanks for sharing. I wish Lynda.com would pay more attention to their presenter's voices. I think they chose instructors based on knowledge alone :-(
