Photography - Video How-To (various subjects) Watching someone show us how to do something is a great way for many of us to learn, and there are many professionals who are now creating video lessons on YouTube and other sites. Many are free, including the Digital Photography 1 on 1 Series. It has now been sponsored by Adorama (one of the nation's largest photo retail and mail order suppliers) and has additional information about the lessons on video on the original website (http://www.studiolighting.net) and now the Adorama Learning Center website (http://www.adorama.com/alc/ ). The host, Mark Wallace, is knowledgeable and easy to listen to; he covers Interested in creating portraits with your subjects in sharp focus and the background showing a soft out-of-focus look? Here's a video that explains how to figure that out -- Digital Photography 1 on 1: Episode 12 (Shallow) Depth of Field Shows how choice of aperture, focal length of lens, and distance from your subject can create a shallow depth of field. View the still images featured on this video on the Flickr page for that subject. There are a lot of videos that show studio lighting - sync speed, equipment- light meters, softboxes/reflectors/ and grids, snoots, flags, etc; setups, how/why things work, etc. *Edit* I'm going to set up separate threads with separate themes to make it easier for folks to see the videos that interest them. Episode 1 - shutter synch, balancing flash and ambient light Episodes 2- 7 Shows equipment (mostly related to lighting) to help you decide what you might want to use. I'll create a different thread for the Lighting videos. Episode 7 - lens choice Episode 10 - lighting ratios Episode 11 - basic lighting setups Episode 13 - White Balance (color temperature, setting white balance on your camera) Episode 16 - Exposure (aperture, shutter speed, ISO - working together) There are so many resources available to help us learn and places like here and Flickr etc. to post our practice shots and get critiques. C'mon - dive in !! Last edited by CJ Swartz; 08-08-2010 at 02:28 PM. Reason: Due to large number of videos, decided to reorganize threads

Re: Photography - Video How-To (various subjects) CJ, the quality of the videos is excellent and professionally done with good content. The instructor is excellent, professional, and clearly very knowledgeable as well. He reminds me a lot of Chris Orwig. Regards, Murray

Re: Photography - Video How-To (various subjects) Very nice. Thanks for sharing. I wish Lynda.com would pay more attention to their presenter's voices. I think they chose instructors based on knowledge alone :-( I like Rick Sammon's voice. and this week in photo is nice audio to play while you're surfing
