5D MkII with 25MP !?

Hi guys,

Its my first post here, so if this thread doesn't belong to this section pleas shift it to the proper one.


I have 5D MkII, and ofcours its a 21MP camera, but when I tried to open RAW photos in my PS CS5 I have got an option to open the photo in 25.2 MP !!

So is that a wise choice to go with, is it going to give me any advantage ?
or it will just add some extra pixels which might be a bad thing ?

I have tried to open one photo with the two options and I didn't feel any big difference other than the 25MP is larger so it might look better if some one wants to print the photo is huge format !


What do you think ?
and what do you suggest ?

The native resolution of the 5DMII works out to roughly 21.1MP according to Adobe Camera Raw. You CAN interrelate up to 25.2 in ACR but that’s not native rez. I suspect you need to check the workflow options in Camera Raw. Its what looks like a web link at the bottom of the UI and where you set color space, bit depth and in this case, the resolution.

IF you know from the get go you need the additional interpolated pixels, there are some advantages to upsizing here at the raw stage rather than later in Photoshop. Its not a huge difference and I’d only do this if I knew I needed to have this large a file from the get go.

Yeah I have got this option from the workflow options of ACR.
I was surprised that I can get 25 MP from 5D MkII, and wasn't sure is its real 25 MP or just ACR will push/add the extra pixels by it self !

Its interpolated data, its not “real” data. That said, up sizing good digital capture 200-300% is easily doable IF necessary and if handled properly.

Again, if I knew I needed more interpolated resolution at this early stage, I’d do it in ACR.
