| Re: questions about SLR cams very important Would you perhaps be referring to a "Gray Market" item? The following was gleaned from the web... " Grey market means that the camera or product is sold in a country that it is not meant to be sold in. As when an overseas distributer sells some of his goods to a retailer in the US. He knows he will never have any expense servicing these items and doesn't have any overhead for inventory, advertising, local distribution. He will just have a shipment from Japan diverted. The product is generally perfectly sound, its not refurb's or "seconds". Grey market cameras never include a Manufacturer's warranty because the manufacturer's licensed or authorized agent or representative did not import that item and did not sell it to the retailer to sell it to you." The problem for the consumer is that the distributors protects themselves by not servicing the Grey Market product. Grey market products are not eligible for rebates and the rebate process can detect the product's intended market area by its serial number and/or the UPC on the box. At times manufacturers use somewhat different model names in different markets to add to the distinction, e.g. Nikon N8008 vs F801. This helps the consumer get the legit product and avoid the unpleasant surprise if they find they need service." I have no idea how to confirm the serial but if you already have doubts.... buyer beware... ") |

| Re: questions about SLR cams very important OK, I understand your question now and have only one point to add to OlBaldy's reply. Some manufacturers have a policy whereby they will refuse to service a Grey market camera - not even if you are willing to pay money, they just refuse to touch it. You should inquire about Canon's policy in your country. Regards, Murray |
