Lightbulb First beauty shoot - any advice?

So what do you need to do in order to get the best possible image for PP and retouching? What do I tell the makeup artist? Are there things to use and things not to use when it comes to makeup? Are there any things I need to take into account? I have never shot beauty before and in a few days I will be working on one for a model who requested that I do the shooting and retouching. Until now I mostly did Fashion but I am very interested in trying it out. Thanks guys!

Re: First beauty shoot - any advice?

Hi there,

I recently retouched headshots and fashion shots and there were a few things which could have done better

- rests of eye shadow under the eye
- foundation was not smooth
- if you have also the legs or arms on the photo, let the MUA use a lotion or tanning cream as well. if the model is freezing you will have otherwise blotches
- hair, no hair in the eyes

maybe that helps

No goosebumps! Warm the studio Great foundation is a must for great post work. It will take a photographer to recommend lighting set-up and the like.

I agree with iop. Keep an eye on the models hair! Good makeup is important but well sculpted/styled hair will lift the image to another level. Also, touching out stray hairs around the top of the forehead can be time consuming.

No foundation(yes, really), as any would neet to be remover form pores, and results will be worse than if you have started with naked skin.

No concealer that covers large areas, as you need to patch up huge portions instead of just one pimple.

Watch the lip line, watch the eyeliner, anything and everything that needs to be exact.

Watch the HAIR, so, so important. Use comb as much as possible, a single hair going across a difficult area will take you 5 minutes, now time that by thousands of hairs.

Of course, watch for ugly hand and neck angles and lighting when shooting.

Has anybody noticed that Mr. Hoq seems to post nonsense? Not quite spam, but close. Maybe his NL is not English, but there has to be a better way to get his message count up.
