Color calibration of Monitor?

Have not been on here , I do use PSE , alot for basic edits cropping levels , etc I have used the focused guides I do not have a color management software to calibrate my monitor , I am just using the control panal setting . is it very important that my monitor is calebrrated i f I were to do retouch work from home , even if I save the work on a cD and have a lab do the output my work or have an online photo lab ?

Color calibration goes hand in hand with principles of color management.
