| | More control for emboss? Is there any way to get more control over the emboss function? I see in PS7 that you can adjust parameters in a popup menu. Is there any way to increase the depth of the emboss in Elements. (Yes, I do have Hidden Power if this makes it possible.) |

| | Elements 2 and Photoshop CS have exactly the same emboss popup, with sliders for height (depth), angle, and amount. PS does add the option of emboss as a layer style, with a few more controls. Maybe that's what you had in mind? |

| | | Sorry, I'm on the first version of Elements. I just assumed that version 2 was the same in this regard. Thanks for your reply! |

| | | I have Elements 1 and the Emboss filter (Filter -> Stylize -> Emboss) does have a Height slider (plus angle and amount). Are you not getting this popup control for some reason? |

| | | Leah - Possibly I am asking the wrong question. What I'm trying to do is have text appear as if it is embossed on a photo. I've seen this effect accomplished with a couple of keystrokes in PS7. I don't know if this can be accomplished with the filter emboss. The one that I was trying to use is in the effects palate. If I try the filter that you refer to, it appears to be embossed in metal. The embossing that I'm trying to replicate actually has the background colors showing through the text. |

| | | Put the text in a new layer in black. Then run Filter -> Stylize -> Emboss (you'll get a warning message about having to rasterize the text layer, which is OK). Then change the Blend Mode of the layer with the text on it from Normal to Overlay (or you could try Soft Light or Hard Light which will give slightly different effects).
At least, if I've understood you right and the atteched image is the effect you're going for... |

| | | If you create a manual emboss, the settings are virtually unlimited. I can write this up if you are really interested.
