Shortcuts difference

I dont quite get the difference between these two shortcuts
ctrl+alt+~
ctrl+shift+alt+~

I use the difference mode to check it, it obviously has some difference, but what is that?

thanks a lot

I found this
when I use ctrl+alt+~ no matter how many times I pressed the ~ key, the selected area won't change

but when I keep ctrl+alt+shift pressed and hit ~ for a few times the selected area will change.

I do this in photoshop cs2

This is to do with how you have your preference file set up.

In General Preferences check "Use Shift Key for Tool Switch" and you need to use Ctrl+Alt+Shift+~ uncheck it, and you then use Ctrl+Alt+~

Hope this clarifies things.

Hi, Gary,

I tried both way, the result is still the same, so my guess is the shift key in here means add selection, add 50% highlight in dark area. but when I use difference mode to check the top two layers, looks like they are not the same.

I did this in PHOTOSHOP CS2.

Hi

I guess I cleared this mess now, I duplicated the ctrl+alt+~ layer and run diiference mode with ctrl+alt+~, the result is the same. so there is no difference between ctrl+alt+~ and ctrl+alt+shift+~, but when you hold ctrl+alt+shift, each time when you hit ~ key, the additional "luminosity" in unselected area will be added into the selection, the shift key plays an add selection function.
