While blithely retouching photos last night the Help folder in CS2 suddenly went berserk. It duplicated itself many times and eventually shut down entirely. Accessing Help became a thing of the past. The error message created reads as follows:
The operation could not be completed. The instruction at "0x00864a4d" referenced memory at "0x01500b08". The memory could not be written.
It seems this is a known problem with Adobe products that has no simple fix. I followed the instructions found at the Adobe site to the letter. The problem was that their are at least 3 sets of instructions--only one of which worked. The patch (to use the term loosely) provided by Adobe does not work.
Five hours after the problem manifested itself, I now have my Adobe programs up and running again. Here is what I did if any of you encounter the same problem.
I totally deleted the Adobe Help Folder. Then I installed the Adobe programs over the top of the current installation. Yes, there is a way provided to do that in your install. So far, that has "fixed" the problem. If it occurs again, you will be among the first to know.
