Hello,
Does anybody know of a good plugin to make caricatures? I tried the liquify tool (PS CS2) and can't say I'm too happy with it. Is there some tool that can grab let's say the whole nose? When I try it with liquify, it only gets part of it and leaves some other parts kinda lighter underneath.

paint shop pro's 'warp mesh' is pretty good at this. you can set the size of the mesh and 'pull' the nodes as you wish. the larger the grid, the more that gets pulled with an individual node.

the same is also true of the 'warp brush', only this is a freehand version of the warp mesh. there is no grid or mesh, just the brush. the brush size can be enlarged to grab as much as you want at a time, or as little.

I tried the warp tool, Philbach, but it modifies the whole image, not pieces of it.
Craig, does Photoshop come with that warp brush, or is it only with PSP?
Anyway, I just found a neat tutorial for caricatures. Here's the link:

I just make a selection around what I want to warp if using the whole photo.... This is what I get

i really dont know what photoshop has. i dont use it. i'm sure it has something comparable, but you'd have to ask the ps folks.

thanks for the link to that tutorial. quite good. i did relatively the same thing with warp brush and warp mesh. 10 minutes, roughly.

I know you previously mentioned you don't like the effects of the liquify tool but I think you might try playing around with it a little more. You can change the brush size as well as many other factors to improve what parts of the image you can "grab" and distort. It is a very powerful tool once you get to know it better.

The liquify tool in Photoshop can be tricky, but after you work with it a while you can do very intricate warping (with patience). Therre's also the free transform warp which can be activated after activating the transform tool by selecting the grid button on the menu bar (to the left of the cancel transform button). This isn't as good as having a grid with nodes as in PSP but it's the only grid-based warping tool Photoshop has offered yet.

Thanks to all your comments/suggestions.
I manage to shape the faces OK now that I figured out what my problem was. At the bottom right of the liquify window, I set the "show backdrop" to 0 and that semi-transparent layer is gone.
Now I can have fun...
