help with making a droplet

So I'm tring to make a droplet and it's not working. I've created an action, the action works fine when applied to a photo while in Photoshop, then I went through the steps to create a droplet. I set the droplet to appear on my desktop and the and set it to close and save. So I drag a photo onto the droplet icon and nothing happens, the photos just stay the same.

Ive made a bunch of actions and tried creating droplets for all of them and it's the same thing every time. I get the droplet Icon on my desktop, but when I drag a photo or a file onto it...nothing at all.

I have a book that explains how to make the droplet, so I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Any help would be great.

Is Photoshop running when you try the droplet?

Are the 'close and save' steps in the action??

Hiya domromer,
Here's a thought, have you saved it as a JPEG or PSD? it could be that if you saved it as a PSD file, Windows does not recognise it.(only a thought)

Re: help with making a droplet

Hi,
I personally drag them from the Bridge and it works fine ( even psd). I do not check the "overide open"command.
Just a thought

I missed this thread when it was posted originally.

Some, but definitely not all people who upgraded to CS or CS2 from PS7 experienced the symptoms you reported. To make a long story short settings in the Windows registry were not done properly during upgrade installation due to a Photoshop installer bug. The underlying association between the droplet .exe and Photoshop was lost, hence initiating the droplet did not launch Photoshop. No combination of uninstall, reinstall, etc. gets around this. If one upgraded from PS7 to CS, CS2 on a different PC or on a reformatted hard drive with a fresh copy of Windows, that's a known (but ugly) workaround.

A possible fix:
* Go to Adobe.com
* Surf to the Photoshop/Windows forum
* Go to the FAQ subforum (link near the top of the list)
* There's a download available that may fix the problem. (It modifies the Windows registry.) This fix does not work in all cases.

Failing these options let's hope Adobe got it right for PS7 to CS3 upgrades. I'll be finding that out in a few weeks.

Re: help with making a droplet

I'm a bit late to this thread plus a bit new to the forum but not to Photoshop... Anyway, looking at your screenshots, you have "Override Action "Open" Commands" selected and no open commands in your action, hence nothing will open. Deselect that checkbox, rewrite your droplet and it should work fine. Basically, if that checkbox is selected, then Photoshop will only open the images defined in the action.

You're absolutely, positively right. I missed that completely. There's never a time limit on (a) helping people and (b) getting something right.

Great catch and a terrific 1st RetouchPRO post.

Welcome aboard.
