Photoshop Posterizing your images

Picked up this short trouble shooting tip from an astronomy image processing forum:

In some versions of Photoshop, when working with a file at 50% or lower size (that is, a zoom of 2x or greater), Photoshop will not render the result accurately; it will posterize. The cure is to use a zoom level that gives you >50%.

Maybe this will help someone here.
