Deleting Brushes from the flyout menu

Hi all!

After having PSE for a few years I took the plunge and purchased PS CS2. I copied my collection of brushes from PSE to the presets file for brushes in PS, and they were in one large file. This proved to be unwieldy in PS, as the flyout menu couldn't list them all. (I have several hundred) I spent the better part of the day organizing the brushes into categories, and then put these files into my brush preset file. I can now load them from the different categories, but the old, l partial listing of the brushes is still filling up my screen. I've looked at many tutorials, but I can't figure out how to delete them from the list/flyout menu.

Thanks for your help!

Re: Deleting Brushes from the flyout menu

Activate your brush tool. Then click on the right arrow on the brush preset picker. This should activate the flyout menu where you see your different brushes. There is another right arrow on this menu. Click it to activate the flyout menus and select RESET BRUSHES. This will reset the brushes to the Photoshop CS default brushes. Note, it will delete any brushes you have added (so make sure you have them save elsewhere).

You can also right-click on the brush in the brush selector menu and choose delete.

Re: Deleting Brushes from the flyout menu

Hi Paul,

I followed your instructions, and the brushes are all still there on the flyout menu, even though I can load the brushes now from the categories I created. It is very annoying, and I can't figure out why I can't get rid of them.

I can't make a screenshot to show you, as when I press the alt key, the flyout menu disappears.

Re: Deleting Brushes from the flyout menu

Perhaps it's the location of your brush files. For new brushes, I place them in my GOODIES folder instead of the default Brush Preset Folder. Then when I want them, I just load them from their location.

Try Ctrl+PrtScrn (that should place the screen image on your clipboard). Then select file, new and paste.

I know EXACTLY what you're talking about!!! It's EXACTLY the same problem I'm having!!! Here's a link to my Adobe forum post I just made earlier. I have a screenshot there!!! The EXACT same issue! I'm trying to prevent the problem before it gets as severe as yours, meaning, I can't add more brushes til I find the cure...

Link to my same forum post on the Adobe site--->

Crimsimonia, Welcome to RetouchPRO
Hope you enjoy your stay here and make lots of friends.
Poke around, have fun!

You might try looking here on a PC... :

your Username>AppData>Roaming>Adobe>Adobe Photoshop CS6>Presets>Brushes

then add/delete your brushes

Exactly. Whether you are on a MAC or PC, take the brushes you want to remove out of the presets folder and they will no longer show up in the list.

Re: Deleting Brushes from the flyout menu

No they don't. I've explained that in my Adobe forum thread I linked in my last reply here. I'm very hardware & software tech savvy.
I had my presets folder open & as I was merging & creating new combined ABR files, I was directly deleting the originals from the folder. I re-started Photoshop several times & the deleted ABR files were still there. So I removed them from that folder & created a folder in my Photoshop folder for the files. Then, I could not access them in presets manager so I could merge them to create new files. The folder I created was not visible at all. So I had to add them back to the presets folder to merge them as new combined brush files, then take them back out of the presets folder & reset my presets list. Believe it or not, simply deleting them from the presets folder, somehow did not work. Cuz they were still in the fly-out menu...
Thanx for the replies!
Blessed Be!
