Color Replacement Tool weak opacity

A quirky and intermittent problem here using the color replacement tool in CS3. -- While laying down a dark color over a targeted lighter area -- it only lays down a light opacity version of that darker replacement color. Have tried every variable I can think of. Any ideas?

Thanks a lot

Re: Color Replacement Tool weak opacity

That's the way it is supposed to work - it uses the hue from the colour your replacing with and the lightness of the original.

Xaran, Christine is correct. However, you can first use the Color Replacement tool in Luminosity mode. Then change the mode to Color and go over it a 2nd time and that should take care of it for you. The other thing you could do is use Select > Color Range to make a selection of the area you want to recolor and then apply a Gradient Map or Gradient Map adjustment layer.
