Cursor is in "annotation mode"

My cursor is in "annotation" mode and I don't know how it happened or how to get it back to normal. I already tried preferences. I also tried closing (I have CS2) and reopening ... nada. I was able to delete all the empty annotations that popped up because every time I click it gives me an annotation box. So stupid of me. tia.
