Diffuse > Anisotropic - weird error

Well, I'm having a problem with this file that crashes Photoshop CS3. And I can duplicate the crash... Would appreciate it if someone could verify...

http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/pho...te-bridge.html

Open the file, Rotate it 90 degrees CW and run Stylize, Defuse, Anisotropic filter. It only seems to happen when you rotate the picture.

Edit... Some folks over on NAPP have also tested this file and it crashes for them too. Doesn't matter, Mac or PC.

Swampy I had similar with CS2, Not a crash but see attached, ----strange

The first one shouldn't matter, just attached it for interest.
The second when I tried Diffuse/Aniso, though without the rotate it applies okay. (though still a prob if you then rotate and apply Diffuse/Aniso)

Re: Creative interpretations: Golden Gate Bridge

Four or Five people over on NAPP have also been able to duplicate the crash using various versions of PS on both Mac and PC. Connie Burianek, over there, has about pin pointed it to having something to do with the file size. She says...
--------------
I think it might be something with the image size!!!

I took a look and the orginal image size 1023x742...

Did image>Canvas Size and change it to 1030x750
Did the rotate and then ran the filter and it worked just fine....

Edit... I think I've confirmed it is something with the image size...
I did Image>Canvas Size to this weeks battle image and change it to 1023x742 and sure enough it crashes too!

------------
This is really strange.

Re: Diffuse > Anisotropic - wierd error

It's an obsure PS bug; happened to me in Win/PS7. Hasn't blown up (so far) in CS3. Definitely file related.

Workaround options:
* As Connie suggested above or
* tweak settings in Image > Image Size dialog

Actually, you can do it with any file. Just change the size of the file to the 742 x1023 and the error occures. There could be other file sizes that would trigger the event. Gotta be something in the algorithm for the defuse filter.

Over at Adobe, Buko has discovered that setting file size to 73PPI will also cause the crash when running the filter.

Thumbs up Re: Diffuse > Anisotropic - weird error

I'm glad to see that someone figured this one out. My CS2 kept crashing and I figured it was another one of those electronic Phartz. After reading about it here I changed one side of an image to 10 inches on the long side and the dpi top 99 because my monitor uses that dpi to keep it true to a one inch scale.

Re: Diffuse > Anisotropic - weird error

Swampy, yes this is definitely a programming bug. If you have not already done so, you should report it to Adobe at this link.

Re: Diffuse > Anisotropic - weird error

Let' hope that they patch CS2 as well. Also, maybe a much needed update for ACR for CS2 as also. Thank God for UFRaw.
